The Villain’s Aide Has Run Away - Chapter 84.2
Should he just ignore it and leave? His mind kept running the calculations.
Then Kailos took a step forward and blocked the door with his broad shoulders. His clenched jaw revealed his resolve not to let Blue go without an answer.
[What a bothersome human.]
Blue’s tail tapped the floor irritably. It was not as if Kailos was in a good mood either.
“I am asking why you did that to Leslun.”
Kailos’s voice, laced with coldness, cut sharply through the air.
At those words, Blue’s tail began to flick even faster. The tension between them boiled.
Kailos stood with his arms crossed, glaring at Blue with eyes as sharp as a predator staring down its prey. Blue, however, was not intimidated.
Blue’s round eyes narrowed into thin slits, and his tail whipped the floor several times. The small standoff between man and guardian spirit filled the entire room.
“Leslun misunderstood. Do you know that because of you, our relationship nearly wavered?”
[If it could be shaken that easily, then it is because you failed to do things properly.]
Blue’s retort struck Kailos right where it hurt. Annoying, but true.
If Kailos had given Leslun reassurance from the beginning, if he had approached him without hiding anything, perhaps none of this would have happened.
“I had my own plan. Do not interfere carelessly.”
A shadow crossed his expression. Blue’s gaze carried both sarcasm and a hint of pity.
[If you keep being complacent, this will keep happening.]
Blue’s words were cutting, but they were true.
“I will not let it happen again.”
Kailos collapsed heavily into a chair like a puppet whose strings had been cut. Tilting his head back, he let out a long, weighty sigh that traveled down his spine.
He had thought he had reassured Leslun, but the gnawing unease in one corner of his heart had not lessened at all.
Had it been a mistake to approach him out of curiosity in the first place? Had it been wrong to test him?
The irritation of having his plans disrupted had melted away like snow, and now he found himself wondering what decisions Leslun would make with that small head of his.
He had wanted to torment him. He had wanted to shatter that purity he held so dearly.
He had wanted to show him just how futile and fragile the family he cherished so much really was.
Kailos thought of Leslun crying freely and closed his eyes before opening them again.
He had been the one in the wrong.
If he had known things would turn out like this, he would have praised Leslun wholeheartedly every time he did something well.
“Even if he learns what kind of man I really am, I wonder if Leslun will still stay by my side.”
[That is not wonder. That is fear.]
Blue pierced Kailos’s foolishness with a short, clear jab.
“Perhaps you are right.”
Kailos let out a dry laugh. Sunlight poured heavily over his shoulders through the window.
[You do not even know yet. Why regret it already?]
Blue tilted his head, his tone devoid of any softness.
In truth, Blue had witnessed both Kailos and Leslun’s sudden change and their clumsy confessions. He remembered the time when the two had circled each other from a distance despite standing face-to-face.
[Leslun is still right in front of you.]
Blue’s words pointed out the reality that there was still so much to do. Kailos’s gaze slowly dropped.
“I know.”
He exhaled a long breath, as if admitting it.
Kailos knew better than anyone that what lay ahead was what truly mattered. That was why he had told Leslun he would show him how he felt. And yet, part of his heart was still trapped in the past.
[Foolish.]
Blue poked at Kailos’s back with a single remark and then sauntered out of the room. His tail swayed with a steady rhythm as he left, cutting through the stifling air.
The heaviness still remained, but it felt different from before. One day, if Kailos truly won Leslun’s heart, all these worries circling around him would disappear.
[Send that one back to his own country too.]
Somewhere in the distance, Silber — who had been circling and keeping an eye on Leslun — flew off and vanished. He was probably going to report to someone.
Would he tell the truth about who Prince Tarensiu of the Kingdom of Vancor really was? If so, then perhaps Kailos could drive him out and stop him from targeting Leslun.
As that thought crossed his mind, Kailos turned around, but seeing him lost in deep thought made Blue blurt something else out.
[Pathetic human.]
Knowing full well what Leslun was worrying about, Blue snorted instead of saying more.
Leslun was far too precious to hand over to anyone else.
