When I looked up at the sky, the sun was gradually setting.

It had definitely been lunchtime, so when had so much time passed?

There were less than six hours left in the day.

“But what time does the main top start sitting there?”

There was a chance I wouldn’t meet him even if I went. Would that make the trip pointless?

“If I can’t meet him, the doppelgänger probably can’t either. It’s worth going.”

I ran until I reached the entrance to the alley where the protest was taking place. I needed to snatch the doppelgänger and clear the game without interfering with the narrative between Kim Jihwan and the main top.

“The doppelgänger’s extraordinary enough to drop a flowerpot on my head. Would it attack Kim Jihwan and the main top too?”

What if the doppelgänger wasn’t merely nearby, but was actively following the protagonists around?

“Do I… need to intervene…?”

Two identical people would have to appear in front of a sociopathic, obsessive main top and put on some ridiculous farce about a doppelgänger? What if we both irritated him for no reason and ended up captured and killed? Goose bumps prickled across my arms.

“…Status window!”

I braced myself against the embarrassment and shouted into empty space, but this damn status window had never once appeared just because I called for it. Did I need to strike some impressive pose? I stretched one arm into the air with a solemn expression, as though I were casting magic….

“Hey!”

Someone suddenly called out from behind me. I was startled for only a moment before my ears began burning from being caught in such an embarrassing pose, and both my fists clenched.

What should I do? Should I run…?

“!”

At that moment, someone grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.

“What the hell? You’re hurt!”

It was Glasses. He did live in the hillside neighborhood near the redevelopment site, but I couldn’t believe I had run into him this quickly….

But why are you showing up again? Are you someone important?

“What, you bastard?”

“Oops. I meant to think that silently.”

I wasn’t trying to pick a fight. I had merely wondered whether he was one of the main characters I couldn’t remember. In BL novels, any character who looked even remotely attractive usually had some kind of role. That wasn’t limited to BL either. In other works of fiction, wasn’t it more interesting to put beautiful and handsome main characters in the foreground than some vaguely ordinary-looking Passerby Number One?

“Hey, do you know what the Omegaverse is?”

“?”

I thought this was a good opportunity to find out how much he remembered and how world settings and the system affected other people’s awareness.

“What, the 506 bus?”

He clearly had no idea.

Explaining it would probably only make him treat me like a lunatic. Forget explaining the world setting. I should find out how he remembered me.

“Do you remember how we met?”

“Wh, why are you asking that all of a sudden?”

The question must have been too abrupt because he even stammered and took his time answering. It seemed I would need to give him a little time if I wanted an answer. But I didn’t have that kind of leisure right now. I should get his number first and contact him later.

“Can I have your number? What school do you go to?”

“Why do you want to know that?”

“So I can report you for smoking.”

Even though he grumbled, he handed me his phone without resisting. I checked his school and his name. Lee Seojun. It was a more ordinary name than I had expected.

“Aren’t you going to the hospital?”

“No, I’m busy.”

I truly was busy.

It was already past six in the evening. At this rate, I would have no choice but to hand my body over to the doppelgänger. In the end, I decided to search deeper inside the alley where I believed the main top would be, and I started walking.

“What? Where are you going?”

“Hmm… somewhere high?”

More precisely, I was heading not deeper into the alley, but toward the roof of some tall building. I planned to die and stop time for a while so I could search the area. A game with a time limit was advantageous for someone like me, who could stop time.

“…Are you going to keep following me?”

When I asked the guy who was shamelessly walking beside me, he shrugged and replied.

“I was wondering if someone cracked your head open around here.”

“I just fell.”

“Don’t lie. You were perfectly fine earlier.”

“…Earlier?”

Lee Seojun had said something strange. It sounded as though he had seen me twice.

“You get attacked because you walk around spaced out like an idiot.”

Since when had South Korea become such a dangerous place that walking around absentmindedly got your head split open? If I did it twice, even three lives wouldn’t be enough. No, more importantly, you just said something useful.

“Where did you start following me from?”

Lee Seojun’s face stiffened at my question. Then he snapped irritably and insisted that he hadn’t followed me. I didn’t know what he was so embarrassed about, but I truly had no time.

“Seojun-ah, I’m seriously in a hurry….”

I looked at Lee Seojun with desperation in my eyes. Only then did he seem to calm down a little, and he searched his memory before speaking.

“You saw me… downtown.”

Downtown. It wasn’t far from this alley. Unless the doppelgänger had taken a car, it was probably still in the area.

“And? Did you try talking to me?”

“Our eyes met. But you pretended not to know me.”

“Hm? So you didn’t actually talk to me?”

“You smiled at me. It pissed me off. So I followed you to confront you.”

So they hadn’t spoken after all. Just how unpleasant had the doppelgänger’s smile been for him to follow it all this way? It still had my face, so had there been something different about it?

“Was it unpleasant for you when I smiled?”

I lowered the corners of my mouth, which tended to rise out of habit. I scratched my cheek with one finger and added, ‘I’m sorry.’ Glasses rolled his eyes as though organizing his thoughts after my apology, then answered with an expression that suggested even he didn’t fully understand.

“…You smiled like you were troubled. It was fucking unpleasant.”
