Even fighting required time.

Right now, there were two ways to end the game. I could use an Affection Level Increase Coupon, or catch the seeker. The coupons were in the classroom where I had taken fifth period, while the broadcasting room was directly upstairs. In terms of distance, the broadcasting room was closer. In that case, trying to catch the seeker first was the correct choice.

But how was I supposed to explain that….

―The mugunghwa flower.

“…I know how to end this situation.”

“Stop saying stupid shit! Is there something wrong with your head?!”

As expected, he wasn’t easily convinced. Kim Jihwan wanted to escape the school, while I wanted to restore the world. Our conflicting opinions collided, and neither of us backed down.

“Jihwan-ah, this is all a game, and….”

Slide-.

“!”

At that moment, a corpse with its head burst open, which had been draped over the railing, fell toward Kim Jihwan. My body acted one step ahead of my reason, and I pulled him toward me. We tumbled noisily down the central staircase together.

―Has bloomed.

Pop….

The sound of a head bursting echoed from far away. We lay there holding our breaths, our bodies tangled together. The places I had struck while rolling down the stairs began to ache, and I gritted my teeth.

―The mugunghwa… Beeeep, …ed, ed, ed….

While I endured the pain and held back my groans, the speakers, which had been emitting mechanical sounds as though something had broken, abruptly fell silent.

“…….”

“…….”

Neither Kim Jihwan nor I made a sound as we waited for the right moment.

Did it suddenly stop?

Was there some kind of break time?

After spending several tense minutes like that, I finally dared to twitch one finger.

“…Is it over?”

At my words, Kim Jihwan anxiously raised his head and checked me.

When nothing happened, he cautiously got up and brushed off his clothes.

“Baek Hanrim, if you’re going to die, die alone.”

After coldly snapping at me, Kim Jihwan started toward the central entrance.

“Jihwan-ah.”

He ignored my call and continued down the stairs without stopping. But he did raise his head and look up at me.

―Hoo, hoo, ah, ah, the mugunghwa flower.

Then the phrase that had been cut off began again.

He probably hadn’t noticed because everything had happened so quickly, but my left ankle was twisted into a grotesque shape. I had collapsed and couldn’t get up.

“I guess this is as far as I go in this world.”

“……!”

―Has bloom…

“Shut up! Keep your mouth shut!”

“I’ll do better next time.”

As the phrase neared its end, Kim Jihwan turned deathly pale and froze his body, warning me when I kept trying to speak. But wasn’t an injured character in a Death Game nothing more than dead weight? I didn’t like being in pain either, so let’s end it here.

―…ed.

“I love you.”

Pop!

Just in case, I told him I loved him.

The Affection Level didn’t rise.

What a shame.

I’m afraid of ghosts.

Maiden ghosts scare me the most. Because of that, I was somewhat grateful for the current ‘Death Game.’ Zombies, creatures, or mysterious forces of darkness were preferable. Even when I lived in my original world outside the novel, I had absolutely hated ghosts.

Joining the Marine Corps and transmigrating into Baek Hanrim’s body hadn’t helped me overcome it at all. I could easily watch slasher films where someone wielded a chainsaw and buzzed through people like logs, or big-budget Hollywood horror movies, but I could never watch 〈Paranormal Act*vity〉 or 〈The C*njuring〉 even if my life depended on it.

In short, I was a Marine who simply couldn’t catch ghosts.

―The mugunghwa flower.

A Death Game itself wasn’t exactly a positive situation. But wasn’t it the kind of genre where a clever and courageous group of protagonists overcame every hardship and ultimately won?

“Shut up! Keep your mouth shut!”

So now that I had revived with my ankle still twisted, wouldn’t the clever and courageous Kim Jihwan somehow take care of it?

This might be a BL novel, but you’re still the protagonist.

“Haha, Jihwan-ah. I can’t walk.”

―Has bloomed.

I had boldly declared my love and died. But I had ultimately revived as dead weight, so I laughed awkwardly.

“…….”

“…….”

Throb, throb.

My ankle, twisted in a strange direction, screamed in pain.

Good grief, this is killing me….

―The mugunghwa flower.

“…Baek Hanrim.”

Kim Jihwan quietly called my name. It seemed he had grasped both the state of my ankle and our current situation. His expression was slightly distorted, but it wasn’t the face of someone who had resigned himself to everything. If anything, he looked resolute.

“I’ll go outside and bring someone back.”
