“I’m a student, so I don’t have any money, but I’ll earn some once I’m an adult….”

I pleaded desperately with the owner of the motorcycle whose side mirror had been broken. It sounded ridiculous, but I wasn’t joking. In the original story, Baek Hanrim had a setting where he returned to Korea after winning his college tuition at a casino in Australia once he became an adult.

“I promise I’ll pay you back in the future….”

“…….”

I gave the motorcycle’s owner an earnest look, asking him to charge me in the future for the repair costs that would be impossible for a student to afford. But he didn’t move in the slightest.

“Please show me mercy!”

I wondered if I hadn’t sounded sincere enough, so I shouted more forcefully. This time, I even bowed ninety degrees and showed him the crown of my head.

“…….”

He still said nothing. I raised my head slightly and glanced at him, trying to gauge his mood.

“…….”

He stood utterly motionless, as stiff as a plaster statue in an art room. Since he wasn’t flying into a rage, maybe he wasn’t angry?

Crack-.

“Gasp.”

After running his hand over the side mirror, he tore it completely off the motorcycle. The sight of the D*cati being abused made me gasp aloud without realizing it. The veins and calluses on his hand looked rather ominous.

“Are, are you angry…?”

Was that actually the face of someone in a towering rage? While I cautiously watched his reaction, an unexpected remark came from his mouth.

“…Kim Jihwan’s doormat?”

“Huh?”

Kim Jihwan’s name rolled awkwardly off his tongue. Startled, I answered stupidly.

“Is that right?”

“Yes.”

The answer came out without hesitation because my position was so obvious. Yeah, that’s right. I’m his doormat.

“Kim Jihwan, sick?”

But how did he know Kim Jihwan had been sick today? He had quietly left school early, so even the other students at our school barely knew.

“……Why are you asking?”

The moment I sensed something strange, I became wary.

Doormat, sick, Kim Jihwan, Baek Hanrim.

To mention all of those things, he had to know our relationship and both our faces. But no matter how much I thought about it, he wasn’t anyone I remembered. He wasn’t an acquaintance or a relative.

“Who are you?”

At my question, the man remained taciturn for a long time. Then he abruptly gave another answer.

“I was looking for you. I was curious.”

Curious about us? I could understand being curious about me, but why was he curious about Kim Jihwan?

At this point in the story, there was only one person who would take a great interest in Kim Jihwan. The main top….

“Huh? Could you be….”

An ominous possibility rose in one corner of my mind.

No way. Or was it possible?

“What’s your relationship with Jihwan?”

The main top was a chaebol character with neatly groomed black hair, a tall and solid build. But the guy in front of me had long hair covering the back of his neck, piercings in his ears, a tattoo on his neck, and was around the same height as me. Other than looking wealthy, nothing matched.

“…….”

He answered with silence again. At this point, my thoughts expanded beyond him merely being quiet to wondering whether he had a hearing problem. His speech was strangely clumsy and slow too. Would it be easier to communicate if I mixed in sign language? The only sign language I knew was I love you, which I had briefly learned as a child. It would be incredibly strange if I suddenly told him I loved him, right?

“Uh…. Fri-end-. Are you Jihwan’s friiiend? Can-you-hear-me-well?”

I opened my mouth as widely as possible and tried to communicate with him. I even hooked my pinkies together to represent friendship as clearly as I could.

“I can hear you.”

“What…?!”

And all my efforts became idiotic in an instant. If he could hear perfectly well, then why was his response speed as slow as an ancient computer booting up? And who was he? If he wasn’t a friend or relative….

“…Are you someone who’s been following Jihwan?”

Was he Kim Jihwan’s stalker?

That seemed possible. Pretty bottoms often had settings where they mysteriously attracted lots of perverts from a young age.

“Not interested in Kim Jihwan.”

Why had he mentioned Kim Jihwan’s doormat if he wasn’t even interested in Kim Jihwan? The conversation wasn’t progressing, and it was incredibly frustrating.

“Uh… Then, are you interested in… me?”

I asked while thinking, No way, that can’t be right, but he nodded.

Seriously? He had business with me? Why?

Countless questions came to mind, but I didn’t voice them. I was afraid that asking why would start another frustrating game of twenty questions.

“Haa… Hey, how old are you?”

“Seventeen.”

“Ahhh… You’re even the same age as meee….”

“…….”

I felt a little wronged for mistakenly calling him hyung, but he was so slow that I didn’t have the energy to get angry. It was impressive enough that he answered at all.
