“I didn’t know you had a hobby like this.”

Cha Gwonhyeok, dressed in casual clothes and holding the spare helmet I had handed him, still showed off an unreal appearance like the incarnation of testosterone, even though it had been a while since I last saw him.

“Cool, right?”

I stroked the motorcycle beneath me without turning off the engine and answered with a little pride.

If Cha Gwonhyeok had been interested in motorcycles like Allen, I could have recited the specifications in greater detail. But if I did that now, he probably wouldn’t understand even half of it and would just smile awkwardly. What a shame.

“But keep it a secret from Jihwan.”

“Why?”

Why else? The original ‘Baek Hanrim’ didn’t ride things like this, so it was better if Kim Jihwan didn’t know either.

“It’s dangerous. I don’t want to give him anything to worry about.”

Instead of telling him the truth, I gave him a suitable excuse. As long as no one touched the main bottom, the main top wouldn’t care whether someone else rode a motorcycle or a tricycle, so I only needed to look good in front of Kim Jihwan.

“…Do you have a license?”

Cha Gwonhyeok’s observation made me feel slightly guilty. I actually had a history of riding without a license during the winter break of my third year of middle school.

That was a more sensible question than I expected. Good thing I got one when I had the time.

“Yeah, I do. My birthday already passed.”

“When is your birthday?”

December 15th.

“June 23rd.”

“It already passed. I didn’t know it was your birthday.”

“It’s not a public holiday, so why would you need to know?”

“Kim Jihwan knows.”

Why was he suddenly mentioning Kim Jihwan here? Something felt strange.

At the sudden sense of incongruity, I glanced at Cha Gwonhyeok. His expression was the same as always. Had he simply said it without thinking?

“Jihwan is different from you.”

I answered vaguely, wiped the motorcycle’s rear seat with my hand, then patted it twice.

“Get on.”

Because I was wearing my helmet and balancing the motorcycle, I couldn’t properly see Cha Gwonhyeok’s face. He stood completely still without the slightest reaction to my answer that he and Kim Jihwan were different, and then I only felt him climb onto the back seat.

Only after seating the heavily imposing Cha Gwonhyeok behind me did I become slightly worried that the suspension might sink. The model was built extremely sturdily, so that probably wouldn’t happen, but it was a borrowed motorcycle, so I wanted to ride it as carefully as possible.

“Gwonhyeok-ah, how many kilos are you?”

I asked Cha Gwonhyeok behind me as I rode the motorcycle down the road. But Cha Gwonhyeok hadn’t given much of an answer for a while. He simply wrapped his arms around my waist. Was he nervous that he might fall?

Come to think of it, what would I do even if I knew how many kilos he weighed? We were already on the road, and I was the one who had put him on the motorcycle. Was I going to make him get off? Cha Gwonhyeok already saw me as four-dimensional, and if I kept asking, that image might evolve into something closer to twelve-dimensional.

Right, for now, let’s stop asking questions and just ride.

We rode through the summer night city beneath the sweltering wind, watching neon signs and car lights reflected in the side mirrors stretch out in an instant and draw trails of light.

Stars in the night, and lights in the city. It was a summer night where the earth and sky both shone.

“Is this the place?”

I got off the motorcycle without removing my helmet. Then I pointed toward the basement-level window of an apartment and looked back at Cha Gwonhyeok.

“Yeah, this is where he called me.”

Cha Gwonhyeok, who also hadn’t removed his helmet, answered me.

“You could’ve just given me the address. Why did you insist on following me? Are you satisfied now?”

He nodded lightly, then crossed his arms and watched me as though asking what I planned to do now.

“You really weren’t the one bullying Byeongjun, right, Gwonhyeok?”

“No.”

“The person who bullied Byeongjun really is here, right?”

“Probably.”
