Day 7 of the Omegaverse.

In this world setting, Betas were basically no different from ordinary people. Because of that, time passed uneventfully, without any trials or hardships. Maybe it was one of the jackpot spots on the roulette. It would be nice if I landed on something like this every time… No, it would still be best if the roulette simply never spun at all.

I rode with my parents to welcome Kim Jihwan’s family home. A plane flew into the clear winter sky above Incheon International Airport. As I watched it, I sent Glasses, who had left me with such peculiar memories, flying off somewhere beyond the sky.

I probably wouldn’t see him again.

“Oh, they’re here!”

Mother smiled brightly as she looked toward the airport gate. I also raised my head eagerly and looked in that direction.

“Jihwan-ah-!”

Kim Jihwan stood there. It had truly been such a long time since I had seen him. Mother and I waved small flags that read ‘Welcome to Korea’ as we greeted Kim Jihwan and his parents.

“Jihwan-ah, I seriously missed you so much-!”

I had really, really missed him. Did he have any idea that while he was gone, I had witnessed a fiery affair between two middle-aged people over neungi mushroom chicken soup firsthand?

“Agh, I can’t breathe.”

I ran toward him as he walked out while pushing his suitcase and pulled him into a tight embrace. Even when he told me, Get lost, Baek Hanrim, with a sullen expression, his voice sounded sweeter than anything.

“Did you have fun? Did you bring me a present?”

“Why are you always going on about presents?”

“Because bringing me a present means you thought about me-.”

“…There’s dried mango in my suitcase.”

Leaving him behind as he spoke, I grinned at the system window that appeared.

Love Kim Jihwan.

Affection Level 18%

The world setting will now be restored.

The glorious achievement of raising it by a full 2 percent at once.

Sincerity always gets through in the end.

After hardship comes happiness.

The day of our high school entrance ceremony arrived.

“You should’ve applied to a different high school.”

Kim Jihwan grumbled about how sick and tired he was of me as he sat down on the bus, and I slipped into the seat beside him and retorted that school wouldn’t be any fun without him.

“We’re going to ride the same bus for another three years.”

“I know. My heart’s going to flutter every day for three whole years.”

“Flutter, my ass. You fall asleep every time you get on the bus.”

“Ah, you caught me.”

I rested my head against Kim Jihwan’s shoulder as naturally as always. At first, Kim Jihwan had reacted with disgust, but he seemed used to it now and quietly let me use his shoulder.

“Jihwan-ah, tell me right away if some weird guy tries talking to you.”

“Why should I tell you?”

“So I can avoid him.”

I wanted to avoid the obsessive lunatic of a main top who was only gentle toward Kim Jihwan. To be honest, he wasn’t even particularly gentle with Kim Jihwan, but at least he loved him enough to let him live.

“Aren’t you normally supposed to say you’ll protect me?”

Kim Jihwan asked in disbelief at my answer.

“Crazy people scare me too.”

What was an obsessive lunatic of a main top? By default, they were sociopaths and bulldozers who didn’t care what methods they used to achieve their goals. If he caught sight of an irritating side top hovering around the main bottom, wouldn’t he dispose of me without anyone ever knowing?

“You seem like the craziest bastard of them all to me.”

“Come on, that’s only because you’ve never seen someone who’s actually crazy.”

We exchanged idle chatter. Before long, my eyelids began to droop, and I fell asleep against Kim Jihwan’s shoulder as I always did.

All while worrying about the days ahead, when you would truly hurt me and make me cry buckets….

Kim Jihwan had come into season and was beginning to bloom into his looks, so he became the center of attention the moment he entered the classroom. This was an all-boys high school, but Kim Jihwan had more than enough beauty to become its queen.

My fists clenched on their own at the thought that he would begin being consumed as someone’s first love and someone else’s immature desire. As someone who had raised him like a precious son, cherishing him like gold and jade, it upset me to see him become the target of someone’s blatant lust.

Love Kim Jihwan.

Affection Level 20%

“Oh!”

My Affection Level rose when I worried about Kim Jihwan. Did this count as love too? High school was off to a really great start.

The novel had never mentioned any trauma related to his high school years themselves, so as long as I handled the main top properly….

“Hmm….”

But was there really anything for me to handle? I was only a piece being moved around on the protagonist’s predetermined board, so didn’t I just need to keep my own emotions under control? As long as I stayed glued to Kim Jihwan’s side like this, wouldn’t I be able to avoid getting dragged into bizarre worlds and suffering like hell?

In that case, I couldn’t let myself leave his side. I would do my best to like him.

“?”

I naturally claimed the seat beside Kim Jihwan, but he was staring at me as though I were unbelievable. Well, I was already used to looks like that. I was someone who had endured all 254 varieties of vicious curses you could hurl with your eyes using my entire body.

“…You’re not in my class, dumbass.”

“Huh?”
