Wrong Genre! - Chapter 10.1
Felix’s request was simple.
Three times a week, Rueg was to sleep in the same bed with him at night.
Even if Rueg woke up first, he was never to get out of bed before Felix did.
If Felix hadn’t woken up by 7:30, it was acceptable to wake him then, but not before.
Finally, Rueg must never tell anyone that Felix had trouble sleeping.
As long as Rueg kept these conditions, Felix promised not to dismiss him from the position of aide. He even said he would personally teach Rueg the aide’s duties, since he made frequent mistakes.
‘It’s not a bad deal…’
No, it was actually almost too good a deal. Rueg could keep his post as aide, and all the debts Versha had racked up would be cleared at once.
There was just one thing bothering him.
“I’m… not as quick on my feet as my sister.”
“Hm?”
“As Your Highness said earlier, I’m not good at my job and I make a lot of mistakes. Is it really okay for someone like me to keep working as your aide…?”
At Rueg’s dejected voice, Felix let out a quiet chuckle.
He reached out and gently ruffled Rueg’s damp hair.
“No one does things well from the beginning. In fact, considering it was your first time, you did quite well. With the cleaning, too.”
“…R-Really?”
“Yes. The only reason I scolded you was because I thought Versha Verdic, who’d been doing the job for years, was making mistakes on purpose…”
It was the first time since meeting Felix that Rueg had ever heard such praise, and his heart suddenly felt warm and fuzzy.
When a smile crept onto Rueg’s lips without him realizing, Felix smiled back and continued softly.
“It’s not hard to pay off all the debts Versha Verdic has piled up so far. But there’s no guarantee she won’t do the same thing again in the future.”
That was true. If Versha found out all the debt under the Verdic name had been paid off, she’d probably start spending recklessly again.
“So stay in the palace and learn your job.”
“……”
“If you really learn, I actually think you could become an aide I need even more than your sister.”
How about it?
At Felix’s question, Rueg couldn’t help but break into a wide, silly grin.
Having been called ‘useless’ countless times in the distant past, every word of Felix’s praise filled him with happiness.
“That’s right. If I learn, I can do it.”
“Good.”
“I— I’ll do my best! I’ll work harder than my sister! And I’m really quiet when I sleep. I promise I won’t even snore!”
Felix had to bite back a laugh at Rueg’s words, finding his chick-like chirping quite adorable.
“Alright, let’s look forward to it, then.”
With that, Felix said he was going to wash up and turned away.
Rueg watched his retreating back and dazedly nodded to himself.
‘Felix is so kind…’
He’d been worried because Felix’s personality had changed so much from the original novel, but it seemed the underlying kindness hadn’t disappeared, and that made him happy.
Unconsciously smiling to himself, Rueg leaned quietly back against the sofa.
‘I don’t know when Versha will come back…’
But as long as Felix allowed it, maybe it was okay for him to want to keep this place until she did.
He found himself wishing, just a little.
* * *
Soaking in the bath, Felix recalled the sight from earlier and let out a small laugh.
Rueg’s hair was so bright and golden, like spun honey, that Felix had half-expected it… but the way his pale pubic hair revealed his genitals so clearly had been almost laughably cute.
The way Rueg had frantically tried to cover himself was, for some reason, also terribly endearing.
As Felix savored every little action of Rueg’s in his memory—
“……”
He suddenly felt a rush of blood to his lower body and glanced down.
“Hm.”
Felix stroked his chin and raised an eyebrow.
Ever since meeting Rueg again, he’d found himself embarrassingly aroused at times, just like this.
It was true that Rueg was a precious existence to Felix.
If that weren’t the case, he never would have had Rueg live in the palace when his own position wasn’t yet secure.
But it shouldn’t have been any more than that.
Strangely, though, the more he saw Rueg, the more his heart felt ticklish in one corner.
The way that tiny, cotton ball-sized thing bustled around in front of his eyes. The way Rueg chattered on and then belatedly watched for reactions, it was all just adorable.
“Maybe it’s just that I’m happy to see him after such a long time.”
But did that explain why he wanted to touch Rueg whenever he saw his face, or why he wanted to taste those soft lips?
Still, since he’d never felt anything like this before, there was no way to know what the right answer was.
