Wrong Genre! - Chapter 10.2
“Maybe it’s just because I’m tired.”
After a brief moment of hesitation, Felix quietly looked down at his own lower body.
Normally, things like this didn’t happen.
The moment he tried to recall who he’d been thinking about just now, Rueg’s face flashed through Felix’s mind. Instantly, blood rushed to his lower abdomen again.
“…I guess it really is just because I’m tired.”
Muttering this, Felix ignored the clear answer his body was giving him, as if telling himself he wasn’t allowed to have these feelings right now.
Barely managing to calm himself down, he finished his bath and took a deep breath.
For some reason, the thought of seeing Rueg once he left the bathroom made him antsy.
“Verdic. It’s about time to get ready for bed…”
With a hint of tension, Felix snapped his fingers to dry the water from his hair, then caught the sound of regular, soft breathing.
He walked over to the sofa and saw that Rueg had already fallen asleep in the meantime.
Just a little while ago, Rueg had been trembling in anxiety. Yet now, with one problem resolved, he’d fallen asleep so quickly.
“……”
Felix walked silently up to Rueg and, without meaning to, swallowed dryly.
It was only minutes ago that he’d convinced himself his desire hadn’t been triggered by looking at Rueg. But seeing Rueg sleeping peacefully, breathing evenly, made Felix’s heart pound in his chest.
Clenching his jaw, Felix slowly bent down and reached out, gently running his hand through Rueg’s hair.
The honey-colored strands tangled softly between his fingers, and Felix felt a curious sense of fulfillment fill one corner of his heart.
It felt as if something long empty inside him was finally being filled. Why did he feel this way, and why was Rueg the cause?
Just as Felix’s mind tried to find an answer…
“Mmm…”
Rueg, stirring in his sleep, grabbed Felix’s arm. Then he began to nuzzle his face into Felix’s large palm.
“…Ha.”
Felix’s lips curled up at the corners as he watched Rueg’s familiar, trusting gesture. Something one could only do with someone they felt close to.
“You have no idea what’s going on in the mind of the person right in front of you…”
Felix murmured, and moved his fingers to softly touch Rueg’s plump lips. He wondered what kind of reaction Rueg would show if he put something between those slightly parted lips.
As Felix imagined all the different faces Rueg might make, he unconsciously let out a suppressed breath.
“…I must be completely out of my mind.”
Of all people, he was having these indecent thoughts about Rueg.
Felix bit his own lip, then gently stroked Rueg’s cheek with his thumb.
The anxiety that had always been knotted in his chest felt as if it was slowly melting away, just from being with Rueg.
“…I don’t know the reason, Rueg.”
Is it just because they’d reunited after so long?
Or is it that he really does see Rueg as someone special?
“If I end up thinking of you as something more than I should, you’ll be in even more danger… even more than you were ten years ago.”
Felix whispered, taking in Rueg’s sleeping face.
Ten years ago.
Back then, Rueg had loved going outside and talking to people, but after the ‘incident’ where he nearly lost his life, he’d shut himself away in the mansion.
“No… YOUR HIGHNESS!”
Just recalling that day, Felix could still hear Rueg’s desperate scream as if it were right in his ear.
After that incident, Rueg spent a whole week hovering on the brink of death.
Everyone expected Rueg Verdic to die.
A poison no child could possibly endure had entered his body.
But by some miracle, Rueg survived.
However, he lost all his childhood memories.
“That was my mistake, too.”
The mistake of not protecting you back then.
“But I’d hoped it wasn’t true.”
But Versha’s words had been the truth. Rueg really didn’t remember Felix at all.
He’d been startled seeing Felix’s ‘grace’ for the first time, and every time Felix swore, Rueg would jump in fright.
“I don’t intend to put you in danger, Rueg.”
“When we’re grown up, let’s get married. Okay? We’ll stay together until then. That way, we won’t be alone. Neither of us, Your Highness or me!”
Felix still remembered the look in Rueg’s eyes that day long ago, shining gold as they met his, his gaze curling softly as he spoke those daring words.
But the Rueg of now had no memory of saying such a thing, or of harboring similar feelings.
“We really were quite close, Rueg.”
But the reason Rueg lost his memory was entirely Felix’s fault.
“But I… I still can’t protect you perfectly yet.”
No matter how he felt, now wasn’t the time to be selfish.
“I can’t let myself be greedy.”
Right now, protecting Rueg came first.
