Wrong Genre! - Chapter 12.1
“How did you… know that, Yuri?”
Startled by the question, Rueg answered without thinking, then quickly shut his mouth.
It had only been for a month, but lately, thanks to Versha’s reckless spending, Rueg had hardly eaten any meat at all.
So for someone like Rueg, who usually needed to eat meat at least four times a week just to have energy, it was true. He’d been going without.
‘How does Yuri know? Has word spread everywhere about the current state of the Verdic County’s finances?’
And as Rueg’s answer was completely misunderstood, Yuri’s face took on a deliberately serious expression.
Until now, whenever Versha left the palace in a hurry, she would always mention her brother’s name. The reason was that her brother, holed up in the mansion for the past ten years, was supposedly waiting endlessly for her.
But in reality…
‘So she’s been using her brother as an excuse all this time.’
Because of her reclusive twin brother, rumors had spread throughout the palace that Versha loved her family dearly.
Even in the palace, due to certain events in the past, nobody stopped Versha’s excessive behavior, even if it went a bit too far.
But in truth, she had just been using Rueg as an excuse to neglect her duties.
‘Does he know all this?’
No, probably not. Looking at those big eyes blinking blankly, there’s no way that idiot has any idea.
‘Wait, then…’
Could it be that he’d even been threatened this whole time? Wicked people never stop at just one thing.
The moment this suspicion crossed Yuri’s mind, all of such recent questions suddenly came together.
The reason Rueg, who had no ties to the imperial palace, was now here, taking over Versha’s work in her place.
Most likely, Rueg had been threatened by Versha in some way. If she hadn’t even made sure he ate properly, it could have involved not just threats, but even violence.
Having reached this conclusion, Yuri let out a short sigh.
While Yuri was lost in a tangle of thoughts, Rueg—unaware that he was being misunderstood—quietly looked at the arm still around his waist.
‘Why won’t she let go?’
And now Yuri was even gritting her teeth, as if something had made her seriously angry.
Rueg, sneaking a glance at him, cautiously called her name.
“…Yuri?”
Only then did Yuri snap out of the reverie, apologize, and help Rueg stand up straight.
“You said you liked meat, didn’t you?”
“Huh? Yes.”
“Then let’s go somewhere else. The steak they serve in the dining hall is tough and not very good.”
With that, Yuri turned and walked off in the opposite direction from the dining hall.
‘It’s only to get closer to him.’
It wasn’t because he cared about Rueg not eating properly.
It was purely so that, once they became friends, he could manipulate Rueg as he pleased.

“……”
Yuri quietly observed Rueg, who sat across the table.
Was he a noble with no sense of dignity, or did he simply not care if people found out he wasn’t actually Versha Verdic?
The way he stuffed his mouth full of meat and chewed looked like someone tasting a delicacy for the very first time in his life.
“…Is it really that delicious?”
Rueg nodded vigorously while chewing. His jaw moved even faster, and after swallowing with a loud gulp, his eyes lit up.
“It’s really, incredibly good!”
Rueg replied, his voice filled with excitement. Whether he truly hadn’t eaten a proper meal in ages, Rueg treated a single piece of meat as if it were the greatest treasure in the world.
Meanwhile, even as Rueg ate ravenously, Yuri was preoccupied with thinking about how to win him over.
