Wrong Genre! - Chapter 11.2
“Ah, it’s so cold…”
Rueg shivered as he half-ran, half-walked out of the Crown Prince’s Palace.
“Verdic.”
At that moment, a voice from the side startled Rueg and he stopped in his tracks.
“…Huh? Yuri?”
Rueg’s eyes widened in surprise at the unexpected appearance. Yuri, not in her usual crisp uniform but in a white poet’s shirt and black trousers, looked so beautiful that she instantly drew the attention of everyone around.
“You’re late.”
Leaning against the wall, Yuri strode over as soon Rueg was spotted.
Rueg, tilting his head to the side, glanced around just in case. But nearby, only the knights on patrol were present. No one was paying attention to Yuri.
“Me?”
“Yes, you.”
“D-Did I make a promise to meet you, Yuri?”
He had been half out of it while cleaning yesterday. Did he say something unnecessary besides asking if they could become friends?
As Rueg nervously fidgeted, Yuri approached with an expressionless face and spoke.
“Let’s go eat. I usually eat with friends.”
“…!”
“Are you always going to have breakfast late? If so, I should try to match my timing to yours.”
At Yuri’s casual words, Rueg’s eyes sparkled.
‘Could it be… She actually accepted my request to be friends?’
Seeing Rueg’s face instantly light up, Yuri let out a small laugh and started walking ahead.
“Let’s go together, Yuri!”
Yuri quietly watched Rueg, running to catch up.
After hearing Rueg’s yelp at the fountain, Yuri had considered using the opportunity to subtly get closer.
But.
“Um… could we, maybe… be friends from now on?”
Seeing Rueg’s face, cheeks red from the cold, asking that question, Yuri had instinctively turned away, almost as if to flee.
Rueg’s words and actions seemed so genuine, Yuri hadn’t known how to respond.
But now it was fine.
Overnight and after steeling oneself, Yuri decided how to deal with Rueg from now on.
‘I need to use him thoroughly.’
That was why ‘Yuri Everton’ existed in the first place.
“By the way, did you hear? They say we’re having steak today.”
“…Is that so.”
“Do you like meat, Yuri? I really do, but Schumann always nags that vegetables are better for your health…”
Chatter, chatter.
Rueg’s small lips never stopped moving. How could someone talk so endlessly? Yuri quietly watched Rueg’s face with some wonder, then finally spoke.
“By the way, Verdic.”
“Yes?”
“Your face is red. Did you drink, by any chance?”
At the question, Rueg tilted his head.
But for some reason, even that small motion seemed a bit unsteady, as if he could barely hold himself upright.
“It’s not that… I guess I was just a bit cold yesterday.”
Rueg wrinkled his nose and turned away.
He waved his hand as if it was nothing and took the lead, but for some reason, it looked worryingly unsteady.
“Uh, uhh!”
Sure enough, as Rueg walked with flapping steps, his leg seemed to give out and he stumbled.
Yuri quickly moved in and, without hesitation, grabbed Rueg’s waist to steady him.
‘…Hm?’
The moment he did, something felt off. Rueg Verdic may have been a bit small, but he was still a man… yet he was much lighter than expected.
“Are you… eating properly?”
“Huh?”
“You seem way too light.”
Yuri frowned and pressed gently, feeling Rueg’s ribs right through his clothes.
‘Wasn’t it said that Versha Verdic cherished her twin brother dearly?’
As that thought crossed Yuri’s mind, another feeling swept through.
‘There’s no way.’
Every encounter Yuri had with Versha so far said she was absurdly spiteful and a terrible person, willing to do anything for her own gain.
In other words…
“Have you… not been eating properly?”
