“You don’t have to worry. What happened in the past won’t happen again. Now, I can make you all better.”

Those words sounded less like Felix was telling Rueg and more like he was repeating them to himself.

“Sleep a little more. Then… everything will be alright.”

As he said that, Felix kept stroking Rueg’s fevered cheek.

Nuzzling into that cool hand, Rueg eventually couldn’t say a word, drifting back into sleep as if he’d lost consciousness.

When Rueg finally opened his eyes in the late dawn, he looked around at the darkness and held his breath.

‘How long was I asleep…?’

He remembered his fever rising terribly, but after that, he had no memory of what happened.

‘…Ah, don’t tell me.’

Did he fall asleep before finishing all his work and let the shift end? The thought made his heart plummet.

Just as Rueg hurried to sit up, someone’s arm pulled him close.

“…Ack!”

Rueg let out a short gasp and turned his head… Only to see a pair of red eyes just waking up from sleep.

“Y-Your Highness…?”

The moment his eyes met Felix’s, Rueg’s face froze.

Felix had clearly said not to wake him except at the proper time. Now Rueg had disturbed his rest.

“S-Sorry…”

Rueg was just about to apologize in a barely audible voice when a large hand pressed to his forehead, holding still as if to check for fever.

“Your fever’s finally gone down.”

“…Pardon?”

“That’s a relief…”

Felix exhaled in relief, lowering his hand and pulling Rueg tightly into his arms again.

Rueg blinked wide eyes at the gesture, then turned to look at the bedside table on Felix’s side of the bed. There, he saw a damp towel and a few pills.

‘Don’t tell me…’

Was Felix the one who took care of him? Did Felix do it personally?

“Excuse me, just for a moment.”

At that instant, memories of what happened while he was delirious with fever flashed through his mind.

“Huh…!”

Felix’s face, slightly tilted, meeting his lips. The warm water poured into his mouth.

Remembering it all, Rueg’s face instantly turned red.

“Go back to sleep. It’s still dark…”

Whether Felix noticed his embarrassment or not, he just hugged Rueg tighter, his voice heavy with fatigue.

“……”

Thanks to that, Rueg just pressed his lips together and stared at Felix’s face.

How long had it been since someone stayed with him when he was this sick? As Rueg tried to count the years, he shook his head and snuggled deeper into Felix’s arms.

“But, Your Highness. I’m not fully recovered yet… If you stay here, you’ll catch it too. I should go back to my room and sleep.”

Rueg said as he squirmed, but Felix’s arms only tightened around him, as if he had no intention of letting go.

That action made Rueg’s cheeks flush even more.

“I really might get you sick though…”

Would Felix hear the loud pounding of his heart? Rueg knew he shouldn’t have these feelings, but it was impossible to stop his heart from reacting.

He looked up at Felix’s face. Felix’s red eyes were already closed, as if he’d fallen back asleep.

‘Your Highness.’

Silently, Rueg mouthed the words without a sound.

‘Please don’t be so good to me. Before I really fall for you.’

He knew all too well that the one who’d end up crying their eyes out if he nurtured this affection would be himself.

‘If I fall for someone, I get really clingy.’

If the person he liked didn’t return his feelings, he’d probably just hover nearby, always showing his face.

He might even trouble Felix, asking him to just look his way because there was someone here who liked him.

“So please, don’t be so good to me.”

Felix had to end up with Yuri someday. Rueg couldn’t be the one to get in the way of that.

Somehow, he thought Felix’s arm around his waist tightened just a little more.
