At the sight of him muttering like someone half mad, Felix, who had been looking down at the documents, lifted his head.

The moment the Emperor met Felix’s gaze, his body trembled violently and his shoulders shrank. He looked like someone gripped by fear.

“Even after ending up like that from coveting another person’s Blessing, it seems you still haven’t come to your senses, Father.”

Until now, Felix had appeared to obediently follow his words, but a sharp voice now poured from his lips.

“Would you like to covet it again?”

Felix took a step closer to the Emperor and bent slightly to meet his eyes.

The Emperor’s gray eyes shook violently.

“If you wish, I will gladly offer it. After all, I am the Crown Prince who cannot rule the nation without Your Majesty, am I not?”

“……”

“I am curious myself what will happen this time. Whether you will truly transcend the limits of a human and become a god, or whether you will lose something other than your leg this time.”

The moment Felix’s eyes curved into a faint smile, the Emperor began to scream.

“Ugh, ah, aaah! Aaaah!”

At the Emperor’s cries as he clutched his head, the knights and attendants waiting outside rushed into the room.

The Emperor screamed as he grabbed the hair of those who approached him.

“H-He! He’s coming to kill me. He’s coming to kill me! He’s going to—!”

Shrieking at the top of his lungs, the Emperor twisted his body wildly and began smashing his head against the headboard.

“Y-Your Majesty! You mustn’t do this!”

“Your Majesty!”

At the urgent voices, Felix slowly shook his head.

Just then, the Emperor’s aide rushed into the bedchamber. Seeing him, Felix placed the documents he had been holding into the aide’s hands and said,

“His Majesty has approved all of these matters, so handle them accordingly.”

“Pardon? B-But…”

“You’ve seen His Majesty like this for more than a day or two, haven’t you. Once he calms down, he won’t remember what happened anyway.”

After speaking briefly, Felix lightly waved his hand.

A faint cluster of light flickered, then slipped into the Emperor’s nose.

When he came to his senses later, he would truly forget what had been discussed in this room.

‘That crazy old man.’

Clicking his tongue inwardly, Felix swallowed the curse and turned to leave.

He was already used to the Emperor provoking him with madness during formal reports. Besides, it had been a long time since the Emperor had become like this.

‘But to think he could sense Rueg’s Blessing.’

The Emperor, William, was obsessively fixated on Blessings.

In his youth, it had been because of the imperial selection system established by the previous Emperor. Now, it was to prolong his aging, failing body and dwindling lifespan by any means.

Without realizing that stealing the Blessings of others was gradually driving him toward death.

‘I can’t lose him this time.’

Because of William’s greed alone, Felix had lost eight brothers. The Emperor had taken all the Blessings that had resided in his own children.

“Ah, so you were there. Which number were you again? Hmm, that’s not important… My son, have you considered becoming Crown Prince?”

“Th-The Crown Prince? …But everyone who sat in that position died. I don’t want to die. P-Please spare me!”

“You don’t actually believe such foolish rumors, do you? Tsk, to think this is my son.”

Recalling that memory, Felix’s brow furrowed as the voices flooded back.

That memory always ended the same way. With Felix, his eyes bloodshot, going to see the Emperor.

“I’ll become Emperor.”

“……”

“So give me the vacant position of Crown Prince.”

Pressing his temples, Felix let out a short breath. Ten years had already passed, yet it still felt as vivid as if it had happened yesterday.

After steadying his breathing, he began walking again.

Now that William had noticed the trace of another’s Blessing on him, he would surely send people to investigate his surroundings.

‘Then Rueg’s existence will be exposed.’

If William learned that someone from the Verdic family possessed the Blessing, there was no telling what madness he would commit.

Even if he was now a toothless dragon, if the opponent was the fragile, fledgling Rueg who could not even fly, he would still be dangerous.

‘I have to hide him even more.’

He could not repeat the past. He had to keep him hidden tightly in his arms, so that no one else’s eyes would ever find him.

That way, he would be able to protect Rueg.
