Calling her name urgently, Rueg turned his head.

“…Why are you calling me with such desperation?”

Yuri was submerged in the now blackened water, breathing roughly.

But that wasn’t the problem.

Yuri’s upper body, visible above the water, was completely flat. Once the clothes were off, even the body lines that were usually hidden were clearly revealed.

“…A, a man?”

Clutching his head, Rueg stared at Yuri.

‘Wasn’t he the female lead?!’

You damned childhood enemy!

What exactly from the original story is still intact?!

* * *

Shocked, Rueg crouched in a corner of the bath for quite a while.

“I’m glad the misunderstanding has been cleared. I never imagined you thought I was a woman.”

Yuri, stepping out of the darkened water, let out a long sigh.

Honestly, seeing his half-bare body again, Rueg felt like an idiot for ever thinking he was a woman. The broad shoulders and tightly built muscles clearly belonged to a man.

But Rueg felt wronged.

‘The novel definitely said he was a woman…’

It wasn’t that he had believed the original story would remain unchanged. Since childhood, he had worked to keep Versha from becoming interested in Felix in order to twist the original plot.

‘Still, how can a character’s gender change!’

As far as Rueg thought, something felt strangely off.

In <Not a Lady, but the Power Behind the Throne>, Yuri and Felix were the main couple. Felix was definitely a man, and if Yuri was also a man…

I-It… It wasn’t supposed to be this kind of genre!

Rueg felt like his head was spinning.

As far as he knew, the original story had not begun yet. The starting point of the novel was definitely…

“…Huh?”

…What was it?

Lifting his head, Rueg stared quietly at Yuri’s face.

There was no doubt that this world was the setting of <Not a Lady, but the Power Behind the Throne>.

Otherwise, the moment he saw Yuri’s face, he would not have recognized him as one of the original protagonists.

‘But then, why…’

Why couldn’t he remember clearly?

There were things he remembered as if they had been carved into his mind.

Yuri and Felix’s first meeting. Yuri going out for volunteer work. Then an incident occurring there, and Felix saving Yuri.

But aside from that, he couldn’t remember anything.

How the story progressed. How the two eventually fell in love.

He couldn’t remember any of it.

“What’s your name?”

“…I don’t have one.”

At that moment, a young voice flashed through Rueg’s mind.

At the same time, a splitting headache surged through him, and Rueg grabbed his head without thinking.

“Ahh…”

“I’m— Na Yeong… ah, right, that’s not my name anymore. I still can’t get used to it every time I introduce myself. Ahem, I’m Rueg!”

Words he had never spoken echoed in his ears. Multiple voices overlapped, to the point that he could no longer make sense of the conversation.

Then—

“Verdic!”

At the hands gripping his shoulders and shaking him, Rueg snapped his head up.

Cold sweat poured down instantly, and his cheeks, usually flushed red, had turned pale.

“Are you… alright?”

At the voice filled with concern, Rueg opened and closed his lips several times.

Just moments ago, it felt like a child with the same hair color as Yuri had flashed before his eyes along with a voice. But the headache and dizziness were so severe that he couldn’t clearly tell what was what.

Staggering slightly, Rueg grabbed Yuri’s arm.

‘This is definitely…’

It was the same sensation he had felt when he was with Felix. Hearing words he had never spoken, or seeing glimpses of their childhood selves…

Memories that he shouldn’t have, if they had never met as children, existed in Rueg’s mind.

If that was the case…

‘Then was what I just saw also false?’

Felix had once dismissed the things Rueg had seen and heard in dreams and illusions, as if they were not real. As if he had always been tall since childhood, and had never been smaller than Rueg.

But even so…

“Hey, Yuri. Have we met before?”
