At Rueg’s question, Yuri’s expression twisted subtly.

“…Pardon?”

“No, I mean… No, I’m sorry. There’s no way we’ve met. That person said they didn’t have a name, and you’re Yuri, so…”

“……”

“S-Sorry. You just looked so similar… No, that’s not it. Um, are you feeling a bit better?”

After rambling, Rueg came to his senses and looked at him.

But to Rueg, the face of the man before him still seemed to overlap with the child he had seen in that vision.

“…As I told you before, you seem to need to take better care of yourself.”

“……”

“But since you asked, I’ll answer… I’m fine now. Thanks to you.”

Yuri gave a short reply, but he did not answer Rueg’s earlier question about whether they had met before.

Taking the silence as a negative, Rueg gave an awkward smile and lowered his gaze. Perhaps it was because something shocking had happened to him recently.

“Um…”

Looking away, Rueg hesitated. Because of the strange question, an odd silence hung between them.

How should he change the subject?

As he thought for a moment, Rueg’s eyes fell on the bathwater, which had turned completely black.

“Um, sorry but… Can I ask why that happened?”

“What do you mean?”

“The water. It looks like it turned completely black… Is it possible that what made you sick was that?”

He had only meant to lighten the mood, but the more he spoke, the stiffer Yuri’s expression became.

“…What did you just say?”

“Huh? What do you mean…?”

“You were just talking about the water, weren’t you?”

“That it turned black…?”

At those words, Yuri stared at Rueg, no longer able to hide his shock.

“Don’t tell me… you are someone who has received the Blessing?”

“Blessing? What’s that?”

“It is the same kind of power His Highness the Crown Prince uses.”

Yuri’s voice sounded oddly urgent. Rueg shook his head.

When Rueg only looked confused, Yuri pointed toward the bath.

“You said that looks black.”

“…Yes.”

“Then perhaps… Did you see anything else?”

“Anything else…? Ah, that black stuff looked like it was rising near your body, like smoke.”

But what did that have to do with this thing called the ‘Blessing’?

Since Rueg did not even know what the Blessing was, he could only tilt his head in confusion.

Seeing his expression, Yuri bit his lip.

His expression shifted moment by moment, and then he let out a long sigh and rubbed his face dry.

“…You really make my mind restless every time I see you.”

“…Me?”

It was already shocking enough that he could see the water as black, and then he suddenly asked about childhood. That only made things more confusing.

‘Rueg Verdic…’

He was nothing more than the Crown Prince’s dog, so why did it feel like he was someone who should not be ignored?

If he were honest, he wanted to grab Rueg by the back of the neck and force those vile things into his body at once, since he clearly possessed the Blessing.

If he did that, everything he had planned would be fulfilled.

But he could not act rashly.

Because of a lingering thought. Because of a possibility.

Soft, pale blond hair like cotton candy. Eyes like dark honey. Skin too fair for a man, and a person who always smiled so easily.

That face looked very much like the child who had once reached out a hand to him, when everyone else turned away. The child who had disappeared without even a chance for a final goodbye.

“I like meat. But they don’t give enough meat here. Meat, meat!”

There was a memory that sometimes knocked at the back of his mind.

Whenever he was struggling, that child would appear in his thoughts, smiling brightly.

That child, though placed in an orphanage, had made a fuss about wanting to eat meat.

For a moment, the image of Rueg happily eating meat during their recent meal slowly overlapped with that memory.

“…I will ask you one thing.”

“Yes? Yes.”

“When you were young, did you ever live somewhere other than the Verdic estate?”
