“Always?”

“Yes. Always.”

At Felix’s words, Rueg tilted his head to the side.

If events followed the novel’s plot, a major incident would occur, but it would happen outside the imperial palace, at any rate.

More importantly, Rueg was the only one who knew such an incident might occur because he had read the novel… Was volunteer work really so dangerous that they had to remain cautious even inside the imperial palace?

‘Simon was… the one currently opposing His Highness over the imperial throne, probably.’

Since someone like that was stepping forward, perhaps Felix was simply being more cautious than usual.

“If that’s the case… Then, what should I do? You said we have to stay together at all times…”

“It would be best to move rooms altogether.”

“Move rooms?”

“Yes. There’s another room across from the bathroom. It should be larger than the room you’re using now. Since we’re already discussing it, let’s move all your belongings today. Like I said, it would be better for us to remain together at all times.”

Without even giving Rueg a chance to answer, Felix abruptly rose from his seat.

When Rueg hurried out of the office to follow him, a gust of wind blew in through the window, making the paper Felix had thoroughly crumpled flutter.

The paper, titled ‘Verdic Code of Conduct Contract,’ was filled with dense and meticulous clauses.

– Verdic will not disappear from sight without permission.

– Verdic will always fall asleep together with the Crown Prince.

– Verdic will not speak to strangers without Felix’s permission.

The clauses born from Felix’s obsession went on without end.

And it would still be a very long time before Rueg ever saw them.

“So… you’re saying the aide currently beside the Crown Prince isn’t Versha Verdic, but Rueg Verdic?”

Inside a dark room.

The man seated in a chair made of luxurious material furrowed his brow.

When his brilliantly gleaming blue eyes twisted, Yuri, who stood across from him, lowered his head while keeping his back perfectly straight.

“Yes, that is correct.”

Although they possessed hair and eyes of the exact same color, and were even twins, the two somehow gave the strange impression that they did not resemble one another.

“Rueg Verdic…”

The man stroked his beard and tapped his fingers against the desk. Even at the quiet, rhythmic sound, Yuri tensed completely, his expression stiffening.

“Did you find Versha Verdic?”

“Officially, it is known that she ran away with her fiancé. However, her fiancé is from the north, so…”

“I asked whether you found her.”

At the sharp voice, Yuri immediately closed his mouth.

Gulp. Swallowing dryly, Yuri steadied his breathing and grasped his trembling fingertips.

“…I could not find her.”

“Useless fool.”

The rebuke came the instant he finished speaking. Yuri lowered his head even further and repeatedly apologized.

“Rueg Verdic, Rueg Verdic…”

The man seated in the chair, Silver Everton, narrowed his eyes.

“Why would they send the precious child they kept sheltered away from everyone for more than ten years to the imperial palace now…”

Versha Verdic was a cunning woman.

If necessary, she would fawn over anyone, even an enemy. Then, at the most crucial moment, she would stab them in the back and seize the benefits for herself.

That was the kind of person Versha had always been in Silver’s eyes.

“Is Rueg Verdic someone worth being wary of?”

“No. Compared to Versha Verdic, he has learned very little… and he seemed foolish. I don’t believe you need to pay him much attention.”

However, Silver could not erase the suspicion from his gaze.

There was no possibility that Versha would send a younger brother who was of no help whatsoever to the imperial palace without a reason.

Perhaps there was another reason Versha, who had remained so firmly beside the Crown Prince, had been forced to leave the imperial palace.

As the silence stretched along with his thoughts, Yuri opened his mouth.

“I intend to use Rueg Verdic to transfer the curse.”

“Use him?”

“Yes. He saw the curse dwelling inside my body.”

At those words, one of Silver’s eyebrows rose.

The curse Yuri carried within his body as its vessel could be transferred through physical contact with another person.

However, merely holding hands was not enough. At the very least, he had to kiss the other person to pass the curse on.

‘It will be a gamble, but…’

Recently, Felix had kept Rueg constantly by his side. Yuri had even heard that they ate their meals together in Felix’s room.

‘Considering Rueg Verdic hasn’t returned to his quarters for two weeks already, the two of them must be sleeping together.’
