Judging from that, they were likely more than merely acquaintances.

Felix had rushed all the way to the bathhouse simply because Rueg had vanished from his sight.

At the very least, there was no doubt that Felix considered Rueg special.

If so, there was also a high possibility that they would eventually kiss.

“You know it only takes one month for the curse to disappear after leaving its vessel, don’t you?”

“Yes, I am aware.”

“And that once the curse disappears, you will have to create it again and take it into yourself?”

“…I am aware.”

Only after hearing Yuri’s answer did Silver’s expression relax. He looked as though he had finally found a use for an object he had considered throwing away because it was useless.

“Make certain you succeed, my son.”

“……”

“If you wish to remain my son.”

After saying that, Silver patted Yuri on the shoulder and left the room.

A heavy silence now settled over the room.

Left alone, Yuri slowly nodded and forced out an answer that sounded almost like a groan.

“…Yes, Your Grace.”

He felt as though he might suffocate to death.

Time passed quickly, and the day of the volunteer activity arrived.

At the sight of the people packed together like a swarm of ants amid the noisy clamor, Rueg unconsciously let out a brief exclamation.

Being in an unfamiliar place made his heart pound for no reason.

“We will now begin the opening address!”

Rueg flinched violently at the booming voice and hid behind Felix as if trying to burrow into his back.

“Verdic. Do you think you’ll look like Versha while hiding behind me like that? Straighten your shoulders and stand proudly beside me.”

As Felix spoke, he grabbed Rueg by the arm and pulled him to his side. The moment he did, Rueg’s view opened completely, revealing the expansive scenery.

The imperial capital seen from atop the imperial palace walls was more magnificent than he had imagined.

The people below looked so small that they appeared as mere dots, and even the knights standing in formation to protect those of high rank looked incredibly impressive.

“Wow…”

Even while staying at the imperial palace, he had always been busy traveling only between the office and Felix’s bedroom.

Now that he was seeing such a different view, the fact that this was the imperial palace standing at the highest point in the empire suddenly felt real.

As Rueg continued marveling inwardly, he spotted silver hair shining brilliantly beneath the sunlight.

‘It’s Yuri!’

His eyes widened with instinctive delight, and perhaps sensing his gaze, Yuri looked in Rueg’s direction.

When Rueg gave a small wave, a slight crack appeared in Yuri’s expressionless face. Looking flustered, he glanced around before slowly nodding.

‘I’m glad he looks alright.’

Rueg had not seen Yuri since he collapsed the other day.

That was because Felix had kept him close and put him through intensive training on ‘how to look like Versha,’ while also teaching him various pieces of information.

They had even begun eating their meals together in Felix’s bedroom. As a result, Rueg had far fewer opportunities to see Yuri.

‘I should talk to him once we go down to the site later.’

Rueg intended to follow closely behind Yuri throughout this volunteer activity.

Partly because Yuri might end up in danger, just as he had in the novel…

“During this volunteer activity, you are to keep an eye on Yuri Everton.”

“Yuri? Why Yuri?”

“Why else? He is a member of House Everton. Isn’t it obvious?”

Felix’s dumbfounded expression remained vivid in Rueg’s mind.

As did the words Felix had continued with.

“House Everton. They are currently the noble family with the greatest influence in the Ejordia Empire. They are officially attempting to place Simon on the throne as Emperor.”

“Don’t tell me Yuri is trying to put someone else on the throne?!”

“…You didn’t know?”

…Because that conversation had taken place, Rueg, who had at least some personal connection with Yuri, had been assigned to follow him closely.

‘Good. I can do this.’

If Yuri asked him anything suspicious, he would answer that he didn’t know.

Or he would give him a completely wrong answer.

He felt slightly guilty about deceiving Yuri, but as an aide, he had to fulfill the duties expected of him.

“There, over there.”

While Rueg had been sending Yuri meaningful looks for some time, Felix’s quiet voice reached his ears.
