Wrong Genre! - Chapter 32.1
When Rueg turned his head in the direction Felix was looking, two men dressed in elaborate clothing came into view.
“That’s Simon.”
Beside a large, muscular man with a bushy, completely untrimmed beard sat a light green-haired boy with his back perfectly straight.
“Simon…”
Rueg murmured his name and unconsciously furrowed his brow.
The boy was clearly wearing a gentle expression, yet for some reason, Rueg felt a sense of aversion toward him. He felt as though he never wanted to approach him. No, he felt such intense displeasure that he did not even want to exchange a single word with him.
“Avoid him as much as possible. If he approaches and speaks to you, simply tell him that it is not a matter you can answer.”
Rueg’s shoulders flinched slightly at Felix’s voice.
“Yes.”
He would avoid him at all costs.
Usually, no one who gave off such an unpleasant air was ever normal.
As Rueg made that resolution, Felix avoided the eyes of those around them, stroked Rueg’s head, and added,
“I’m sure you’ll handle yourself well.”
At the touch that briefly rested on his head before pulling away, Rueg took a deep breath and composed his expression.
However, it was not so easy to control the corners of his lips as they slowly crept upward.
‘…He said I’ll handle myself well.’
Did that mean Felix trusted him to some extent now?
With a ticklish feeling spreading through one corner of his chest, Rueg eventually found himself grinning by the time the opening address ended.
Once the opening address was over and they descended to the site, Rueg turned his head and searched for Yuri with his eyes.
He was unloading supplies meant for the sick from a freight wagon.
“Yuri!”
When Rueg called his name delightedly, the people around Yuri widened their eyes.
After looking Rueg up and down as though they were staring at a madman, they soon began whispering among themselves.
“Doesn’t Verdic always leave after watching the opening ceremony? Why is he at the site?”
“Looks like he came to snap at Sir Everton again.”
“What are the ghosts doing? Why haven’t they taken that person away?”
Rueg’s shoulders trembled slightly at their extremely hostile remarks.
He had heard so many insults while staying at the imperial palace that his ears had nearly grown calluses, but he did not think he would ever become accustomed to them.
“Verdic.”
Just as Rueg tried to ignore their words and approach, Yuri strode toward him first. At the same time, the people who had been hurling vicious insults immediately closed their mouths.
“It seems they have more than enough hands here, so come with me somewhere else.”
“Pardon? …Oh, uh, Yuri?”
Yuri grabbed Rueg’s arm and began walking with long strides. As though he did not care who was watching them, he continued forward, and Rueg hurried after him before asking,
“P-People are staring at us…!”
“……”
“Yuri? We, um, sh-shouldn’t let people see us like this, should we?”
At those final words, Yuri came to an abrupt stop. His gaze, which had been fixed ahead, slowly turned and settled on Rueg’s face.
“…Who told you something?”
“Pardon?”
“You suddenly seem concerned about something you never paid attention to before.”
At Yuri’s words, Rueg immediately clamped his mouth shut without realizing it.
Normally, he would have passed by without thinking like a fool, but Felix had taught him so many things recently that he had unconsciously revealed his suspicions.
“House Verdic and House Everton are enemy households. The two houses serve different masters, so it is only natural.”
“Ah! Is that why Yuri hated my sister?!”
“That may be part of it, but Yuri Everton has also personally suffered a great deal at Verdic’s hands. That is likely another reason he dislikes her.”
Had it not been for what Felix had told him a few days earlier, he would never have asked such a pointless question.
“It’s not that anyone told me anything… I suppose you could say I’ve just learned various things…”
“It seems you have heard about the relationship between Everton and Verdic.”
“…Hic.”
Rueg tightly closed his mouth and looked up at Yuri. He had tried to change the subject to hide it, so how had Yuri figured it out so easily?
