Wrong Genre! - Chapter 35.1
‘Wait, just now…’
Hadn’t he said ‘reincarnated’?
Rueg clutched his head and parted his lips.
He thought it over several times, wondering whether it might have been something he himself had experienced, but the memory that had just surfaced was clearly not one that existed in his own mind.
In other words, it was the real ‘Rueg’s’ memory.
‘What in the world is going on…’
He had no idea where or how to begin unraveling this mystery.
“Young Master? You look terribly pale…”
“No, I’m fine. And… what happened after that?”
“Pardon?”
“After I entered the imperial palace as a royal companion. What happened next?”
At Rueg’s question, Maria looked restless. His already fair skin had turned deathly pale, making him look terribly unwell.
“Please tell me.”
At Rueg’s words, Maria parted her lips, then eventually shook her head.
“After you entered as a royal companion, I only heard that some kind of accident occurred. Since it happened inside the imperial palace, and I was living away from the capital at the time…”
As though apologetic for being unable to give him the answer he wanted, Maria continued examining Rueg’s complexion.
“An accident…”
If ‘Rueg’ had once entered the palace as a royal companion, and if he had met Felix there.
Then the memory that had suddenly flashed through his mind had been real.
‘Then why in the world…’
Had Felix acted as though he were meeting Rueg for the first time?
If Felix knew who Rueg was and they had been royal companions together in the past, then surely the first thing he should have said was that it had been a long time.
However, Felix had never once said anything remotely similar to Rueg.
‘Then what about Versha…?’
Versha had never brought it up either.
“My sister… Does Versha know about that accident?”
“She was likely at the imperial palace with you at the time… so she should know.”
His thoughts were tangled.
He was not questioning why they had failed to tell him about the accident.
If he pieced together the memories surfacing in his mind and Maria’s account, then ‘Rueg’ had once been Felix’s royal companion.
And now, because of Versha’s sudden absence, Rueg had entered the imperial palace as Felix’s aide.
…If so, given the circumstances, Versha should at least have hinted at what had happened in the past.
The Versha Rueg knew was more cautious than anyone when it came to official matters.
However, Versha had taught Rueg nothing.
Neither had Felix.
In that case, there was only one possible conclusion.
Versha and Felix had ‘deliberately’ told him nothing. Schumann had also agreed with them.
‘Why in the world…?’
Was there something he was not supposed to know?
As Rueg tugged helplessly at his innocent hair in frustration, Maria cautiously asked,
“Young Master, could it be that your memories…”
Rueg raised his head and met Maria’s gaze. Even as she asked the question, Maria’s face showed deep concern for him.
“…To tell you the truth, I don’t know anything.”
“Pardon?”
“None of the things you’ve told me exist in my memories.”
At the honesty in Rueg’s voice, Maria let out an exclamation filled with dismay.
“I-I’m sorry. This old woman spoke too carelessly and only gave you more to worry about…”
“No, no… I’m actually very grateful. My sister never told me anything… If it weren’t for you, Director, I might have dismissed the scenes that surfaced as nothing more than strange memories.”
“Are your memories… returning?”
“I don’t know that much yet. But when I came near this place earlier, I heard your voice telling me not to run because it would be terrible if I fell.”
When Rueg spoke with a faint smile, Maria returned it with a gentle one of her own.
Like a mother meeting an anxious child’s gaze and matching their emotions to reassure them.
