Rueg kept his mouth tightly shut for a moment, then ruffled his hair wildly with an “Ugh…” However, that did not last long. He soon relaxed his gloomy expression and said,

“…Ugh, I’m going to stop thinking about it.”

After pondering it carefully, Rueg shook his head vigorously.

If the two of them had worked together to keep silent, they must have had a reason.

Perhaps they had said nothing because remembering would bring him no good.

‘Still, I feel a little less frustrated now.’

Rueg looked at Maria with a small smile.

Until now, he had only felt frustrated because he did not know what the things surfacing in his mind were. Now that he at least knew they were his memories, that was enough for today.

Of course, it was slightly strange that the real ‘Rueg,’ before he entered this body, had used the word reincarnated…

‘I’ll probably learn about that naturally with time too.’

He should not be impatient.

Nothing would change no matter how impatiently he acted.

He only had to trust that there was a reason behind their actions… and ask them when they met.

Why they had not told him.

And if they had hidden it, what their reason had been.

Surely he could slowly unravel everything one piece at a time.

“I don’t actually remember you either, Director… But something definitely surfaced in my mind, so it must be true that we spent time together.”

“……”

“May I come visit occasionally? If I visit a place where I used to live often… more memories might come back to me.”

At Rueg’s words, Maria nodded with a benevolent expression.

“If you are willing to spend time with this old woman, Young Master, I could ask for nothing more.”

Maria smiled as she spoke.

For some reason, Rueg felt warmth spreading through his chest.

Maria stood by the window and looked outside.

The sight of Rueg running around the clearing with the children who had just awakened from their naps was no different from how he had looked more than ten years ago.

“I clearly told you not to say anything until he remembered everything on his own. It seems your judgment has dulled considerably, Maria.”

At the quiet voice, Maria slowly turned around.

A woman with long blonde hair tied firmly into a single ponytail stood there, gripping the sword at her waist as she stared coldly at Maria.

“I apologize, Miss. You told me to pretend I did not know him, but…”

In truth, Maria had known for quite some time that Rueg’s memories were unstable.

Everyone had told her to conceal the truth, but after seeing that innocent face and smile, Maria could not bring herself to remain silent.

“The Young Master is no longer a child.”

If Rueg had remained shut inside the estate as before, Maria would not have spoken of the past either.

Not about his unstable memories, nor anything concerning Count and Countess Verdic.

However, if Rueg had left the estate of his own accord and entered the imperial palace, then it was time for him to know at least some of the truth.

“I didn’t see Rueg do a single mature thing while he was here.”

“……”

“What exactly did you see that made you tell him?”

At Versha’s question, Maria slowly looked out the window. In the distance, she saw a man standing with his arms folded.

“Yuri Everton.”

“……”

“I noticed him lingering around the Young Master, and I meddled before I could stop myself.”

“…What?”

Versha’s face twisted sharply as she strode toward the window.

Outside, Yuri was leaning against a tree with his arms folded behind the smiling Rueg.

A faint smile rested on his lips as he watched Rueg. It was almost as though he had taken a profound interest in him.

“Why is that bastard with Rueg?”

“……”

“What’s with that look in his eyes? Does he seriously want to die that badly? Someone like Yuri Everton dares to…!”

“…M-Miss! Miss, they’ll discover you like this. They’ll see you!”
