Wrong Genre! - Chapter 8.1

“Was that too sudden…?”
Rueg stared at the spot where Yuri had left.
She’d come over and helped with various things, so he’d tried probing a little, thinking maybe her feelings toward Versha had softened a bit.
‘She looked absolutely disgusted.’
The moment he finished speaking, her face had twisted up as if she’d just been insulted.
She didn’t even respond, just abruptly turned around and left.
“I thought letting me call her by her name meant she wanted to be friends…”
High society is so difficult, so difficult.
Feeling disappointed, Rueg drooped the corners of his mouth and shivered again as another cold breeze brushed past.
Just as he thought he’d gotten most of the grime off the floor, he sensed someone approaching.
Lifting his head while rubbing his back, he saw a man with jet-black hair come into view.
“Your Highness!”
Spotting Felix in the distance, Rueg ran over to him at once. Even though he was barefoot, the bottom of the fountain didn’t feel slippery anymore, thanks to how thoroughly he’d cleaned it.
Feeling rather pleased, Rueg grinned foolishly, while Felix gave a dry chuckle, looking him up and down.
“What is this… mess…”
Bright yellow leaves were stuck all over Rueg’s blond hair, and his uniform was blotched and water-stained.
No matter how you looked at it, he’d clearly fallen during cleaning and gotten himself soaked in dirty water.
‘…And idiot or what?’
Felix had told him to clean this place, but never expected he’d actually do a servant’s job so thoroughly.
Nobles who were used to being waited on for even their own baths couldn’t be expected to clean properly.
The only reason he’d told Rueg to clean the fountain was to find a gap in his inexperience and trip him up, but this fool hadn’t caught on at all and had scrubbed the floor with all his might.
‘Always goes beyond my expectations.’
Felix sighed and shook his head. His goal had been to get Rueg as dirty as possible, but he hadn’t expected it to this extent.
As Felix silently examined Rueg’s appearance, Rueg cleared his throat and spoke up.
“But I did a really good job cleaning, didn’t I?”
Unaware of Felix’s thoughts, Rueg just beamed up at him, like a child hoping for praise.
“No, it’s dirty.”
“…D-Dirty? Where?”
Rueg, clutching the mop, anxiously looked around.
He hadn’t finished the drain area yet, but was Felix talking about that? But he was saving that for last. It wasn’t finished yet…!
As Rueg rambled on in confusion, Felix stepped closer and grabbed Rueg’s chin. “Mmph!” Rueg blinked in surprise, and Felix said expressionlessly,
“You.”
“……?”
“You’re the dirty one.”
“Oh.”
Rueg let out a short sound of realization and tried to step back in a hurry. But with Felix holding his chin, he ended up stuck in an awkward position.
“Your face is cold, too.”
“……”
“It hurts my heart.”
At those last words, Rueg’s eyes widened.
‘Again…!’
His heart fluttered so suddenly that Rueg instinctively held his breath.
This was just like an oblivious male lead’s accidental flirting.
He wanted to shout that Felix shouldn’t say things like that so carelessly, but knowing Felix, he’d probably just ask if Rueg’s heart fluttered again.
‘If only he weren’t so good-looking…’
Rueg’s lips pouted helplessly, full of frustration.
Felix lightly flicked those lips with his finger, then smiled softly and reached out his hand.
“Come on, get out. Unless you really plan to live there forever, just stay if that’s your plan.”
Rueg looked at Felix’s outstretched hand.
If he took it, Felix’s hand would just get dirty too. That was why he’d refused Yuri’s hand earlier, too…
But despite those thoughts, Rueg, as if enchanted, reached out and took Felix’s hand. As if he’d been waiting for it, Felix pulled him in with a strong grip.
“Let’s go to the bathroom first.”
“Huh?”
“You can’t go to the office looking like that. You need to wash up.”
Saying that Rueg might catch a cold, Felix gripped his arm and started walking first.
…After all that, now he cares about being dirty.
