Wrong Genre! - Chapter 9.1
“You…”
Rueg instinctively retreated ten steps away from Felix. Pressed into the corner of the bathroom, huddled up tight, Rueg waited anxiously for whatever Felix would say next.
His heart was pounding, and he felt like he was about to throw up. Unable to utter a word, he dropped his gaze as Felix set the clothes he was holding down nearby and spoke.
“Get dressed and come out.”
“……”
“We’ll talk after that, Rueg Verdic.”
Click.
With the sound of the bathroom door closing, Felix withdrew, and Rueg collapsed onto the spot.
‘…I-it’s over. He found out! He found out!’
What should I do?
If only his upper body had been visible, he could have somehow brushed it off as a misunderstanding… It’s not a crime to have poor development, after all.
Of course, if Versha found out later, she’d probably tear out all his hair, but that was still better than being fired from the aide position.
“S-Should I run away…?”
Muttering to himself, Rueg glanced at the small window in the bathroom corner. Even though he was smaller than most men, it still didn’t seem like he could squeeze through there.
“Even if I tried to run now, if he’s really set on catching me, there’s no point…”
Maybe I’d have to flee to another country just to stay alive.
Rueg stood up slowly, a sullen look on his face. Even as he pulled on the clothes Felix had left, he couldn’t stop worrying about what was to come.
‘He’ll try to kill me, won’t he…?’
He’d thought everything would work out as long as Versha didn’t fall for Felix. Instead, he’d ended up insulting the Crown Prince.
‘What if this gets Versha killed along with me?’
It wasn’t an impossible scenario. After all, it was because Versha had suddenly disappeared that Rueg had taken her place.
‘I’m scared to go out…’
Just now, when Felix had left the clothes behind, his face had been thoroughly twisted up.
“Damn— Wait, but what if I was actually Versha? He just barged into the bathroom while a woman was stark naked, but… I guess since I’m not Versha, it’s not a problem…”
He wanted to find some way to blame Felix, but there was no good excuse.
Rueg let out a long sigh and gripped the bathroom doorknob, biting his lip.
“If I get beheaded… that’ll hurt, right?”
He’d thought he was adapting well to life as ‘Rueg Verdic’ in this world, but now, just thinking he might die from a single mistake made everything feel hopeless.
“…What happens if I die, anyway…?”
Would he return to his original world? Or would he just start another new life?
Letting out another sigh, he rested his forehead against the door. Just then, Felix’s voice came from outside.
“What, did you die in there?”
At the voice, cold as ice, Rueg instinctively pulled the handle.
With a clatter, the door opened, and Rueg stared blankly, then dropped to his knees.
“Y-Your Highness. The thing is… I really wasn’t trying to deceive you…”
Unable to lift his head, he just fidgeted with his fingers, when he heard the sound of footsteps from far away.
He wondered if Felix was coming with a sword to cut off his head, and trembled. But then a large hand reached out toward him.
Gasp!
Startled, Rueg squeezed his eyes shut and curled up.
But the reply he heard was not at all what he’d expected.
“Can’t you even button your clothes properly now?”
Instead of grabbing his neck, the hand simply fastened the button he’d left undone in his nervousness.
“…Eh?”
Would he end up choking me instead? Rueg, unable to hide his anxiety, looked up, and Felix lightly snapped his fingers.
At that moment, a blanket appeared from thin air and settled around Rueg’s shoulders.
“The floor is cold, so don’t sit there. Get up.”
Felix extended his hand to help, his voice gentle, and Rueg could only stare in bewilderment.
…He’s not going to kill me?
Why is he speaking in such a kind voice?
