It’s dark inside.

From the outside, it had looked at least five stories tall.

But once we entered, there was only a long corridor and a staircase leading underground.

In front of it stood two large men in white robes.

Unlike the ones outside, no numbers were visible above their heads, so they didn’t seem to be Awakeners.

“You’re late. Please hurry this way, brothers.”

Perhaps because we were wearing the same robes, they urged us along without suspicion.

“Go straight down the stairs.”

Following their directions, we went down to the basement.

The dark staircase seemed to go on endlessly.

Along the way, there were doors leading to other floors, but all of them were tightly shut.

As if he had been here before, Serge passed them without hesitation and continued downward.

The deeper we went, the more faint, unidentifiable sounds began to reach us.

By the time it felt like we had reached around the fourth basement level, we finally arrived at the end.

This time, the door was wide open.

Inside the vast space, countless people wearing white robes like ours were packed tightly together.

Every one of them was kneeling with their hands clasped, which was somewhat chilling.

At the front, on a raised platform, a man dressed in the same white robe was giving a speech in a booming voice.

“…Sephirot opened the dimensional gate in order to save humans corrupted by evil and to purify this world fallen into despair!”

“Ahh, Sephirot…!”

“Save us!”

The moment he finished speaking, the believers cried out in unison.

“They’re completely insane.”

Among them, Serge muttered with a click of his tongue.

This time, I agreed with him.

“You there! What are you doing! Sit down immediately!”

At that moment, a man standing guard near the door shouted at us.

“Let’s sit first.”

I quickly whispered to Serge.

I was worried he might lose his temper and start killing everyone on the spot.

Thankfully, Serge said nothing and dropped down at the very back.

Although he sat cross-legged with his arms folded in a rather arrogant posture.

Even so, I felt relieved and carefully knelt beside him.

The speech was reaching its climax.

“Do you believe in Sephirot’s miracle?”

“We believe! We believe! We believe!”

“Excellent! Today, the Purifier has arrived to perform a miracle for the child of Brother Raymond, who has greatly supported our order! Brother Raymond! Please come forward and share this glorious moment!”

‘The Purifier?’

At those words, my ears perked up.

As if the same had happened to him, Serge’s gaze sharpened immediately.

At the same time, one of the kneeling people stood up and went onto the platform.

Then, without hesitation, he removed his hood and revealed his face.

“Waaaaaah! Raymond! Raymond!”

The crowd began chanting his name all at once.

The hall quickly grew noisy.

Serge spoke in a low voice.

“That’s Baron Gavent.”

“You know him?”

“Not personally. There were rumors that his only son went mad after exposure to miasma.”

At that, I turned my gaze back to the platform.

Baron Gavent was smiling brightly, his face filled with emotion.

Considering that his son had become a Corrupted yet he was attending a cult service, he clearly wasn’t in his right mind.

Rrrrrr―

Just then.

From the right side of the platform, several large figures in white robes dragged out something massive covered with a black cloth.

The speaker approached it and pulled the cloth away.

Whoosh―!

And at the sight revealed, I couldn’t hide my shock.

“Kiiik! Gaaah!”

“Grrr, grrk…”

Inside a huge cage large enough to hold wild animals were Corrupted, packed tightly together.

Their limbs were bound tightly with chains so they couldn’t rampage, and each of them had a gag in their mouth.

“Ahh, my son!”

“Harry! It’s Mother!”

“Hiic, dear…!”

Moreover, it seemed the Corrupted were the believers’ family members, because sobbing broke out from all over the hall.

Despite the inhumane sight, treating them no differently from beasts, not a single person protested.

‘This is insane… what are they doing?!’

As I stared at the cage with trembling eyes.

Suddenly, people began cheering while looking toward one side.

“Waaaa! It’s the Purifier!”

“Ahh, Purifier! Please give us a chance too!”

At the voices, I snapped back to my senses and turned my head.

From the left side of the platform, a small figure in a white robe was walking forward.

‘Is that… Llewellyn?’

The hood was pulled down deeply, so the face couldn’t be seen.
