By Some Unbelievable Twist, I Became the Villainess’s Older Brother - Chapter 25.2
“Ack! My lord! I don’t think getting hurt is what Sir Enoch is worried about right now. Can’t you see his expression? He looks as though he wants to die on the spot, or perhaps kill someone!”
Adelio glanced at the rigid Enoch, then glared savagely at Leo.
“Stop making such a racket and fetch my sword from the carriage.”
“Huh? You should have brought it when you got out.”
“Are you talking back to me?”
“Yes, sir. I’m going now!”
As though he had never grumbled at all, Leo beamed and hurried away. Adelio looked at Haynes, the only one left, and awkwardly scratched his cheek, his manner completely different from moments before.
“Haynes. You-”
“If you have no orders for me, I will take my leave. I still have work to do.”
“Ah. Well, yes. Of course. You may go.”
“Yes. Then, if you will excuse me.”
Haynes gave a brief bow and left the townhouse without looking back. Adelio grumbled inwardly as he watched him, wondering which of them was lord and which was subordinate, then glanced at Enoch again.
Enoch’s body was rigid, and he clutched Adelio’s clothes tightly. Suppressing a laugh at the sight, Adelio struck Enoch’s bottom with his hand once more.
Smack! At the sound of contact echoing down the corridor again, Enoch could bear no more and gritted his teeth. He abruptly raised himself and seized Adelio’s neatly styled black hair in both hands.
And he pulled hard! A short scream burst from Adelio.
“Ah! Sir, Sir Enoch! What are you doing?”
“Wouldn’t it have been better if you’d listened to me from the start? Didn’t I ask you to put me down? Being slung over your shoulder is humiliating enough, but how could you slap my, my bottom…! You wretched man!”
“A-Alright. Let go first. Hm? Ow.”
“Why should I? When I asked you to let go of me, did you even pretend to? You didn’t! So I won’t either!”
“No, Sir Enoch! This is lèse-majesté against a member of the Imperial Family! Do you realize that?”
“Yes! I realize it. Then just kill me! If I’m going to die today anyway, I’ll remain irreverent until the moment I do, Your Noble Highness!”
Enoch shouted at the top of his lungs and pulled even harder. The impeccably trained servants of the grand ducal household showed no particular reaction even as Enoch dangled from their master Adelio’s shoulder and mercilessly tore at his hair.
They did not so much as glance at the pair. They simply went about their business, desperately keeping their eyes averted.
A few did flinch at Adelio’s occasional agonized cries. Even so, not one of them turned toward the two men.
Enoch’s lips trembled, but he never released Adelio’s hair. He did not relax his grip even when he saw tears gather at the corners of Adelio’s eyes.
But Adelio was no different. His endurance was remarkable. Even as Enoch tore at his hair, Adelio began walking again with Enoch still over his shoulder.
Oh? Impressive. His anger somewhat soothed, Enoch gradually relaxed his hands.
Adelio then made an utterly unconvincing sobbing sound. Enoch snorted inwardly at the absurd behavior.
But only for a moment. When he saw the black strands clinging to both hands, he could no longer laugh.
‘Wait, was I truly this strong? Even so, how many strands are there? …It looks like dozens at least…?’
Feeling guilty before anyone accused him, Enoch carefully brushed the hair from his hands. Then he went limp and hung quietly over Adelio’s shoulder.
It was absolutely not because he felt sorry for Adelio, who might lose his hair as he aged. He simply couldn’t be bothered to walk.
Wherever Adelio was taking him, surely it would be Adelio’s office or study. Perhaps the drawing room.
But as though mocking Enoch’s complacent assumption, Adelio headed somewhere entirely different from any place Enoch had imagined.
