By Some Unbelievable Twist, I Became the Villainess’s Older Brother - Chapter 3.2
Jaeyi looked at himself in the mirror once more. Did I die back then? If I did, then this appearance… Had I really transmigrated or reincarnated?
Without realizing it, he pinched his thigh hard.
“Ow!”
Jaeyi clutched his stinging thigh. It hurt. If this were a dream or if he were dead, he would not have felt pain like this. That meant he was alive, at least…
The incomprehensible situation left him utterly confused. Why in the world was he here?
―Bang!
The door flew open with a crash. Then a young girl’s voice rang out.
“Brother!”
Jaeyi, who had been standing dazed before the full-length mirror, looked toward the person who had opened the door. A remarkably beautiful young girl stood there in dazzling clothes.
Clutching her voluminous skirts, the girl ran straight toward him.
The instant she reached him, she wrapped her arms tightly around his waist. Jaeyi had no time to dodge. Moreover, the girl was surprisingly strong.
Flustered, Jaeyi looked down at the back of the girl’s head as she clung to him. He held both hands awkwardly in the air, unsure what to do, when she suddenly drew her face away from his chest.
Her small face was already brimming with tears. The sight made him feel strangely unsettled.
“Dear Brother. Are you alright?”
Jaeyi blinked at the unfamiliar form of address.
“…Dear Brother?”
Dear Brother? Was she from the Joseon era or something? What sort of way was that to address someone?
As he merely blinked in bewilderment, the girl rose on tiptoe. When Jaeyi instinctively bent his head for her, she clasped his face firmly between her small hands. Then she poured out a torrent of words, repeatedly asking what she was going to do and even mixing in curses.
Of course, none of it was directed at him. Everything she said was aimed at someone whose face he did not even know.
As Jaeyi listened in silence, his expression hardened. The language the girl was speaking was not Korean.
But it did not seem to be English either. It was strange that he could understand her.
At that moment, the girl suddenly moved her hands without letting go of Jaeyi’s face.
As she shook his head, Jaeyi blinked and finally looked at her.
“Brother, why aren’t you saying anything? Hm?”
He was already so confused that the room was spinning, and having his head physically shaken only made the dizziness worse. Frowning as she continued to rattle his head, Jaeyi finally slapped her hands away in irritation.
“H-huh?”
The motion was rough enough that their hands made a sound when they struck. Caught off guard by Jaeyi’s sudden action, the girl lost her balance, staggered, and dropped to the floor.
“Ouch!”
When his thoughtless action made her fall, Jaeyi froze in surprise. After hesitating, he carefully bent at the waist to check on her.
Fortunately, the floor was covered with a thick rug, and she did not seem badly hurt. Jaeyi sighed in relief.
But the girl pouted. From her expression, she looked deeply hurt.
“Brother…”
“Ah. S-sorry.”
Clutching her hand, the girl looked up at Jaeyi with tear-filled eyes and whimpered. He suddenly felt like a terrible person.
“I’m sorry. Are you alright?”
He apologized over and over, trying to soothe her. His efforts seemed to work. After pouting for a moment, the girl sprang to her feet and smiled brightly.
“I’m fine. These things happen! What about you? You’re all better now! Right?”
All better? Jaeyi hesitated, then nodded cautiously.
“…I suppose I’m alright for now.”
“What a relief! Mother and Father have been so worried! I’m so glad, Brother.”
Jaeyi flinched at one word that sounded especially unfamiliar.
‘Mother and Father? I have parents?’
Before he could wonder at the mention of ‘mother and father’, the girl’s eyes were already sparkling as she took Jaeyi’s hand again. Jaeyi stared down at the small hand.
This time, he couldn’t easily shake it off as he had before. He had no choice but to stand there and watch, but the girl suddenly tugged him toward the door. Jaeyi couldn’t help being flustered.
“No, wait. Wh-where are we going?”
The moment he applied a little force to resist being pulled along, the girl looked ready to cry again. In the end, Jaeyi had no choice but to sigh and let her lead him away.
‘Did I really die back then?’
As he left one unfamiliar place for another, Jaeyi thought all of this might be a dream created by his brain while his body lay brain-dead in reality.
The era and the situation were rather strange, but given his hobbies… he had also seen many advertisements recently for games with settings like this. The scenery’s wealth of detail bothered him a little, but since it was a dream, he supposed that was possible.
At least, that was what he firmly believed until he met the people the girl had called his parents.
