Quietly cheering for the doctor in his head, Haon vividly recalled the sensation he felt on the stairs.
There was a hand protecting the back of his head.
He thought his head had slammed hard back then, but as it turned out, Haon had no issues in his examination results.
‘Because of me…’
It was not that his head was hard; he had sacrificed someone else’s wrist instead.
“Still, I do not need…”
“Please do it.”
The boisterous voice that cut through Cha Jeongwon’s consistent objection completely disrupted the atmosphere.
Even the doctor saw a passionate guardian rather than a frustrating patient, and Cha Jeongwon likewise stared at Haon.
Haon did not back down, even while taking in that gaze.
“He says it hurts, so you should do it. Doctor, please.”
At that, the doctor asked as if he had been waiting.
“Then I will go with a stabilizing bandage.”
Cha Jeongwon looked at Haon with a look that suggested he found it absurd and was wondering what to do with him.
“You. Go.”
“I am not leaving unless you get the bandage. This wrist was injured while protecting the back of my head, so I absolutely cannot let you leave like this.”
When Haon went so far as to bring up threats, Cha Jeongwon stayed quiet, as if watching to see how far he would take this. Thanks to him stepping back a pace, Haon urged the doctor to hurry up and do it.
Once the treatment ended, Cha Jeongwon walked off into the hospital hallway without hesitation. Haon thanked the doctor on his behalf and followed after him.
It was at the moment Cha Jeongwon was pulling out a card from his wallet at the reception desk.
“Wait a moment!”
Haon quickly grabbed his arm. The spot he grabbed happened to be near the immobilized wrist, so he carefully shifted his grip toward the elbow. Cha Jeongwon’s gaze slowly drifted to his caught arm.
Deep and dark… Those were eyes that hated hasty judgments.
“I am not trying to act self-important, but I wanted to say it is fine that we missed today’s class. Since it is the first day, most of it will just be orientation…”
Haon put on the most apologetic expression possible and pretended to rummage through his pockets. He then looked up at Cha Jeongwon and lowered his brows as much as he could.
“I will definitely pay you back later, so could you pay for mine together as well?”
“You…”
His voice dropped lower. It was as if he were scolding him for being brazen.
“I am sorry.”
Haon muttered while pretending to be completely crestfallen. He felt that even if he explained he was not doing this on purpose, it would not work, so he intended to just bow down completely for now.
“Are you giving me the card?”
At that moment, the staff member watching them prompted the payment. Cha Jeongwon turned his back on Haon and handed the card to the employee.
“Senior, I do not have a wallet or a phone on me right now. Or could you lend me your phone just once? There is Kim Hyeongyu, a classmate in my department. Do you happen to have his contact info?”
“Here is your receipt.”
Cha Jeongwon handed one of the two sheets of paper given by the staff member to Haon. Haon received it bewilderedly and quickly checked what it was.

His name was written on the receipt.
“I do not care how you view me, but I am not cold-hearted enough to turn a blind eye to someone who got hurt because of me.”
At Cha Jeongwon’s words, Haon felt an indescribable emotion welling up inside.

In the original novel, he was a guy who kept his distance from others to an extreme degree, so Haon naturally assumed he would act that way toward him as well.
Cha Jeongwon turned around with a cold face, as if there was no need to continue the conversation.
Haon watched him and gently tested the waters.
“I will pay you back quickly. By the way, which direction is your house? I…”
Cha Jeongwon came to a sudden halt, his jaw tightening. On top of that, his eyebrows arched high up. He turned around toward Haon.
He really was a person with terrifying eyes. Haon swallowed hard without realizing it and continued his sentence.

As he finished the cut-off sentence, Cha Jeongwon’s eyebrows returned to their original position.
“Right, let us not get entangled any further.”
After leaving behind a warning not to follow him, Cha Jeongwon moved away from Haon.

Haon grumbled toward Cha Jeongwon’s retreating back in the distance. The gratitude he felt for paying the bill cooled down completely.
Walking heavily, he let out a long sigh.
“Anyway, this is tricky. I cannot remember all the contents of the original novel.”
He understood that he had transmigrated into a novel and that this world revolved around Cha Jeongwon. However, his memory of who the other main character was remains hazy.
It was as if an ember had fallen on a book, burning away and erasing a portion of it.

An ear-splitting noise echoed from the center of the hospital lobby. Every person in the lobby froze in place and looked around.
Haon noticed the anomaly before anyone else. A 3-meter-tall iron statue standing in the middle of the lobby suddenly shook and began to tilt to one side.
Right toward the direction where Cha Jeongwon was standing.
