How the Villainous Consort Avoids His Death Ending - Chapter 3.1
When I looked up at him with displeasure, Tristan’s expression hardened. He must have thought I was glaring at him.
Even though he already looked as cold as a sculpture carved from ice, his face growing expressionless sent a chill down my spine. I should have just let him pick a fight.
“I heard there was another conflict with Constantine.”
Tristan stated his business curtly. I flinched slightly at the mention of the protagonist’s name.
Constantine, the protagonist, should be only around five years old right now. There should be no reason for a twenty-year-old like Ruellin to clash with him, but there had been one. A very serious one, in fact.
How Ruellin tormented the protagonist was described in great detail in the original work. Later on, he even went so far as to commit truly cruel acts.
‘Seriously, how could you bully a child like that…’
And now, I had to clean up the mess caused by my original self. Feeling miserable, I cautiously glanced at Tristan.
“It was nothing serious… I will apologize to Constantine myself.”
“Apologize?”
Tristan paused for a moment. He seemed surprised that I admitted fault so easily. But soon he frowned, scanning me as if wondering what I was scheming.
Feeling like I had to explain myself, I added a few more words.
“It was just a prank that went too far. I’m not good with children… I’ll be more careful from now on, Your Grace.”
“A prank? Were you close enough with Constantine for that?”
“…I’m hoping to become closer from now on.”
“Ha.”
Tristan narrowed his eyes and scoffed quietly. He could have just let it go, but he seemed intent on being suspicious. Well, I supposed I couldn’t blame him, considering what Ruellin had done before.
In any case, being interrogated by the Grand Duke first thing in the morning was exhausting. I wanted to rest for now and worry about improving my image later. I waved my hand weakly, trying to send Tristan away. Or at least I tried to…
But the merciless System gave me no time to rest.

At this rate, you’ll be killed even sooner than in the original story. But you’re not going to just sit and let that happen, are you?
Use your overflowing charm and ultimate cuteness to raise Tristan’s affection!
My jaw dropped in disbelief. An event had suddenly triggered. And not just any event—an absurd one.
‘Did it just tell me to act cute toward the man who wants to kill me? Seriously?’
I demanded an explanation from the System, and for once, it responded politely.
Not quite yet. Probably…
‘You sure about that? He looks like he’d drag me to the guillotine right now.’
The execution scene occurs once the ☆Tragic Death Ending☆ progress reaches 100%.

So I wasn’t dead yet, but it seemed like I would be soon. I was too dumbfounded to speak.
At that moment, Tristan tossed something at my feet. I glanced down and saw a bundle of letters. They were from Viscount Elsworth—my “father” in this world.
“It seems you haven’t replied in some time. Your father has sent multiple follow-up letters. Since both Constantine and I are still alive, I suppose you’ve had no good news to share.”
His tone was oddly mocking.
I could tell he was angry not at me, but at Ruellin. Still, I was starting to get irritated too. He barged in first thing after I woke up and kept prodding nonstop. How was I supposed to stay calm?
I forced myself to swallow my annoyance and tried to smile, even if it was strained. It wasn’t quite “cuteness,” but close enough.
“There’s nothing much to report. If it bothers you, I’ll refrain from exchanging letters from now on. You don’t have to forward them to me anymore, Your Grace.”
Those “letters” were clearly the spy reports Ruellin had sent.
Both of us knew that. There was no point in pretending otherwise. And since I wasn’t the real Ruellin, there was no reason for me to keep sending espionage updates anyway.
After I declared it so bluntly, Tristan’s eyes widened. His frosty expression wavered for the first time, and inwardly, I felt a surge of satisfaction.
‘See? You don’t need to be so wary of me.’
I wasn’t such a bad person. So let’s just get along peacefully, divorce safely, and go our separate ways. Once I’ve saved up enough money to live on, that is.
But how was I going to earn money here…?
