In the Name of God - Chapter 20.2
“Nutritious, filling, and if needed, you can throw in some water and a few ingredients to make soup.”
After energy bars, nothing beats jerky as a substitute for a proper meal. Since receiving the terminal prognosis, I hadn’t been able to eat even that.
‘Maybe that’s why I’m craving it more.’
In this world, I had been living on energy bars. I wasn’t the type to hunt for delicious food. As long as it provided some nutrition and filled my stomach, that was enough. I had stocked up on energy bars instead of rice because beef jerky in Korea was far too expensive.
‘Once I have a little room, I’ll try jerky of all kinds.’
I was seriously thinking this when I felt a sharp gaze.
Lee Sunho was staring at me without even a smile. There was something strangely unsettling about him when he didn’t smile, a chilling kind of feeling.
I faintly heard him muttering.
“I’ll have to fix your taste first.”
“Excuse me?”
“No, nothing.”
His faint smile revealed an unreadable sense of motivation.
“You’re going to be a handful. …Good.”
Lee Sunho really was a strange guy.
***
I had already realized that Lee Sunho was wealthy, no, a diamond spoon.
Living alone in a luxurious high-rise apartment, calling a doctor to administer IVs at home, a wine cellar full of what looked like expensive bottles—there was no mistaking that he was rich.
But the thing that gave off the strongest wealthy vibe was the wide dining table filled with all kinds of dishes.
‘Is he crazy?’
Korean, Chinese, Western… there were so many dishes it was hard to even distinguish them. Among them, there was even a plate full of various types of jerky.
The sheer amount of food was so intimidating that touching it even slightly felt like the whole table might collapse.
“Do you eat like this every time?”
“Of course not.”
Lee Sunho, smiling gently, rearranged plates I hadn’t touched and dishes I hadn’t tried yet.
“It’s my first time having a guest at this house.”
“So that’s why you’re excited?”
The diamond spoon.
I pretended to be nonchalant, reaching out with my chopsticks to the plate he brought me.
‘This tastes good too.’
Everything tasted amazing.
Watching the chefs move busily around the expansive kitchen, I realized just how skilled they were.
After trying a few dishes again at their suggestion, I was starting to get full. I picked the last piece of jerky and put down my chopsticks. If I ate more, I would reach a stage where satiety dulled my senses, so I stopped without regret.
Lee Sunho’s eyebrows twitched.
“You’re not really going to stop eating now, are you?”
“I’m stopping.”
“There are still sixteen dishes you haven’t even touched.”
When did he even count that?
What a strange person.
“If you eat them all, you’ll burst your stomach, seriously.”
Lee Sunho’s lips twisted slightly in displeasure, but he didn’t insist on me eating more. Instead, he watched the dishes I had eaten twice with a serious gaze.
“Thanks for the feast. I appreciate it.”
As I got up, Lee Sunho quickly went to the dress room to fetch my coat. He put on his own coat as well.
“I’ll see you out.”
“No need. I can walk perfectly fine on my own.”
“Who would believe that a person who vomited blood and fainted all day is fine?”
“I’m fine, and that’s why I’ve been behaving.”
“I was behaving because I wanted a meal companion.”
“Then since I’ve been your meal companion, let’s pretend I didn’t see it. You’ve got the sense for that, right?”
I couldn’t imagine how shocked this diamond spoon would be if he saw a collapsing house like mine. I wanted to leave alone from now on, thinking I would feel sorry every time we met.
As I stood at the entrance in my coat, Echo floated into my hood from the marble floor below.
I was about to leave when I turned to look at Lee Sunho.
