“Mr. Lee Sunho.”

After briefly estimating the date, he continued speaking.

“You’ll be taking two more dungeon raid quests within the next ten days. If you’re okay with it, would you like to join me too, Mr. Lee Sunho?”

To be honest, Lee Sunho had left a fairly good impression.

His skills were reliable, and his attitude of quietly going along without prying into unnecessary details was nice. Above all, after seeing how he had even handled the cleanup neatly despite watching someone cough up blood and collapse right in front of him, it seemed his awareness and sense were not bad at all.

“Of course.”

“Great. Put your number in.”

Seeing him answer as if he had been waiting, he held out his phone to Lee Sunho. Until now, they had only exchanged messages through the Awakeners-only app, so exchanging numbers was essential for smoother communication.

“I already saved it.”

“When?”

“When Seong Do-yoon was on the brink of death?”

What a thick-skinned guy.

He shot him an incredulous look once, then opened the front door. With a pleasant electronic chime, the heavy door slid open smoothly.

“Then I’m really heading out.”

“Yes. Get home safely.”

Leaving Lee Sunho behind, he walked down the hallway.

Perhaps this floor only had Lee Sunho’s apartment, because the corridor felt extremely quiet and empty.

Just as he passed through the straight hallway and pressed the elevator button, his phone vibrated.

[Sunho♡]

What is with that heart?

Is he insane?

As he turned around while answering the call with a stiff expression, he saw Lee Sunho leaning against the front door, holding his phone to his ear.

-I’ll be waiting for your call.

The elevator arrived right then, so he hung up without replying. Even so, Lee Sunho showed no sign of displeasure and waved goodbye cheerfully.

Soon the doors closed, and the elevator began to move.

-Mr. Lee Sunho seems like a really good person.

The one who had been calling him “Lee Sunho” had now started adding “Mr.” It seemed he liked him quite a bit.

“What are you looking at that makes you so sure?”

The hood rustled, and Echo wriggled his way up onto his shoulder.

-My master who never listens to what I say finally had a proper meal. That alone is enough!

Echo’s category for a “good person” seemed extremely shallow.

He was about to argue, but finding nothing to say, he closed his mouth.

‘Well… he is a good person.’

Though his lack of caution toward others was a problem.

‘And he barges in for no reason, too.’

To be honest, it would be a lie to say Lee Sunho was not suspicious.

Just by looking at Seong Do-yoon’s memories, one could guess the extent of his bad luck, so it was impossible to simply accept without question a silver-spoon man who had suddenly appeared out of nowhere. Whether he might be a con artist trying to fleece or use Seong Do-yoon, it was necessary to keep various possibilities open and observe for now.

He picked up his phone and edited the contact saved as “Sunho♡.”

[Kind but Suspicious Guy]

The elevator doors carrying Seong Do-yoon closed quietly.

Watching the number panel change in the distance, Lee Sunho moved his lips.

“Confirm that he gets home safely and report.”

“Yes.”

In the empty space, a short reply from a man rang out.

Lee Sunho’s shadow rippled briefly, and from its depths a black mass dropped free. Before it could even hold its shape, it quickly slid through the gap in the elevator doors and disappeared.

Only after the number panel reached 1 did Lee Sunho turn away and step back into his home.

The kitchen was still filled with the scent of various foods.

Lee Sunho swept his gaze over the many dishes left behind almost untouched.

‘Should I have forced him to eat more?’

He could not hide his regret as he recalled Seong Do-yoon, who was thin to a pitiful degree.

Passing through the kitchen, Lee Sunho headed for the study, located farthest from the bedroom Seong Do-yoon had been using.

The study, filled with a cool air, was so quiet that not even a breath could be heard.

Among the books lined on the shelves, a few looked neatly new, as if recently published, but many more faded with the wear of long use. Some had scorched corners, leaving burn marks behind, and others were long out-of-print editions that had easily been published more than fifty years ago.

The books varied in form, age, and even language, but they shared one single commonality.

Every book in this study was a record concerning some “god.”
