Elizer, who had reached out as if to touch Reyna without realizing it, caught himself and pulled his hand back as soon as she furrowed her brow in confusion.

Reyna.

Something kept welling up inside him, and it took a long time before he could find his voice again.

“…Reyna.”

Reyna flinched when Elizer called her name. Her brow narrowed further as if she were scouring her memories. Soon, her face contorted, and she shook her head.

“…Your Majesty. I… I am sorry. My memory….”

She had only realized Elizer was the King by taking cues from the others. Reyna did not remember why she was injured, nor did she remember who he was. Upon confirming that Reyna had lost her memory, Elizer could not hide his shock.

“What did you do to me?”

Her voice, which had crumbled when she confirmed her husband’s betrayal, echoed in his mind.

‘…What have I done to you.’

There was not a single part of Reyna that did not ache.

Elizer was unable to regain his composure amidst guilt and regret.

The corners of his eyes quickly grew hot. He bit the inside of his mouth hard, as if punishing himself. His flesh became ragged, and blood pooled in his mouth. It felt as if that blood was slowly rising from his ankles to stifle his breath.

Tears fell heavily to the floor.

“…Oh, heavens.”

Reyna’s eyes widened in bewilderment upon seeing his tears. She glanced sideways repeatedly as if seeking help, not knowing what to do, but there was no one among them who could step forward to handle such a situation.

Reyna seemed to hesitate for a moment before tentatively reaching out to him. Her fingertips trembled violently, as if even that small movement was a struggle.

“…….”

Elizer opened his mouth to say something more, but no words came out. He felt choked. His mind went blank once again. He could not bring himself to touch her.

He bowed his head before her fingertips and wept bitterly for a long time.

“There was an accident, my Queen. A terrible accident.”

“You fell from the balcony and into the sea.”

“It has been fifteen days since you regained consciousness.”

“It must have been the grace of the gods.”

“It has been six years since you became the mistress of the high citadel.”

“Soon, you will be twenty-four years old.”

Reyna could not understand a single word poured out by the strangers surrounding her.

The fact that she had lost her memory was absurd enough, but to hear she had been Queen for six years and would soon be twenty-four…. Truly, she remembered nothing, so everything they said felt like a lie.

Reyna eventually squeezed her eyes shut and turned away from them.

“Stop. My head hurts too much.”

Whenever she tried to recall the past, fragmented pieces of memory would jumble together randomly, causing a severe headache.

The only thing she could be certain of was the last memory remaining in her mind: the day her father granted her permission to go to the royal capital for the first time in her life.

She had been so excited at the prospect of meeting her future husband. After that, there was nothing she could remember.

“…….”

Reyna scanned the unfamiliar room with wary eyes. Her transparent green eyes, which darkened toward the edges, traced a slow arc before landing on a maid whose face did not look familiar at all.

Wheat colored hair and hazel eyes.

The freckles spread across the bridge of her nose were somewhat striking, but no matter how she looked at it, the strange maid had a very common appearance. Aside from being overly cautious, she was polite and quiet to a fault, so even her personality lacked any distinct traits.

‘Is that why I cannot remember her even a little bit?’

Reyna narrowed her eyes and asked.

“You say I truly cherished you the most?”

Allin became visibly flustered and answered while surreptitiously avoiding her gaze.

“Among those who remain… I served you most closely.”

The way her voice trailed off as if she lacked confidence was a sight to behold. She was incomparable in many ways to Karla, who had been more like a twin sister than a maid.

…And one should speak plainly.

“You said you are the only maid left. Of course you would have served me most closely.”

“Haha….”

“How can a Queen have only one maid?”

“That is… after the accident, most of the attendants of the Queen’s Palace were expelled. Yes, that is what happened.”

“…….”

Since the master had suffered a major accident, it was not strange to hold the subordinates accountable. However, no matter how much she thought about it, there were many aspects that did not make sense.

“…To think I did not bring Karla with me when I got married, what on earth happened.”
