Reyna asked Allin with a bewildered expression.

“Why has His Majesty not shown his face once since then?”

Each time, Allin replied with an awkward smile.

“His Majesty is extremely busy, my Queen.”

Since he was supposedly busy every single time, Reyna found herself with nothing more to say. She had no sense of how much she was permitted to disturb the King, so she naturally began to seek out her father and brother instead.

“Is there still no word at all from the Ducal House?”

“…Yes, my Queen.”

“Not even from Diegor, my brother?”

“…No.”

Allin’s voice became increasingly faint, as if she were telling a lie.

“That makes no sense. How can that be?”

At this, Reyna scrutinized the expressions of Allin and the housemaids with a scowling face. Whenever she asked about the Ducal House, everyone hesitated, looking as though they were troubled to death. Her suspicion that they were hiding something from her grew steadily.

Why on earth? What were they hiding? She could not remain like this.

“Bring me paper and ink. I must send a letter to the Crimson Citadel.”

When Reyna commanded stubbornly, Allin had no choice but to send the housemaids out before whispering softly to her.

“You must not look for the Ducal House.”

Reyna replied with a sudden, deep frown.

“And I ask again, why?”

“…Because you are a Wills now, my Queen, not a Dazbel.”

Reyna was rendered speechless by Allin’s subsequent whisper. She realized in an instant that she had been acting like a child. She was no longer a Dazbel. Furthermore, since she had married the King…. Reyna felt ashamed.

“…I know. I know, but I….”

But I have no memory of becoming a Wills…. Her mind understood it, but it was a fact she simply could not adjust to.

Allin watched Reyna, who was at a loss due to confusion and anxiety, and after a long hesitation, she added more.

“My Queen. The Ducal House is no longer of any help to you.”

“What…?”

“The Ducal House has committed a great wrong.”

To say they were of no help, to say the Ducal House had committed a wrong. These were words difficult to understand all at once. Reyna blinked blankly and finally managed to part her lips to ask.

“A wrong, what do you mean by that….”

Allin only shook her head with a sorrowful face.

“I cannot tell you right now.”

Sensing a dark premonition, Reyna firmly pressed her trembling lips together.

“You will come to know in due time. So, you must not seek the Ducal House anymore. For now…. Please think only of recovering your health.”

Her mind felt distant. It felt as if all the common sense and rules she knew were crumbling. She could not even guess what had happened to her. No, she did not want to guess.

“This is truly driving me mad….”

“…It is alright, my Queen. His Majesty will protect you.”

Reyna simply closed her eyes. There was nothing else she could hope for. She only desperately wished that all of this was a dream.

After that, Reyna stopped questioning the attendants about the Ducal House. During that time, the only people who visited Reyna were the blunt, elderly scholar Thales and his assistant.

The old man, whose back was hunched, disinfected Reyna’s surgical site twice every day.

“Please endure it just a little, my Queen.”

The pain of raw flesh being torn to shreds began in her right leg.

As Reyna instinctively twisted her body at the unbearable sensation, Allin and the young housemaids pressed down on her arms, shoulders, and thighs.

“It is almost finished.”

Reyna, completely exhausted in that short span, could not regain her senses for a while after the disinfection ended. To her knowledge, it had already been a month since she injured her leg. Yet she could not understand why it still hurt this much.

Reyna murmured as if she had lost her soul.

“Exactly when will I be alright?”

“You must monitor the wounded area for at least another month.”

“My heavens….”

When she had first regained consciousness, Reyna thought she had been poisoned. However, the pain felt in her right leg was not something that could be ignored. She did feel that something had gone wrong.

“You fell from the balcony and into the sea.”

When she learned the fact that her leg had been broken, she was beyond shocked.

Reyna, having finally calmed her ragged breathing, moved her blurred gaze to catch a glimpse of her leg. Her right leg was now wrapped thickly in linen. Whenever the scholar disinfected the wound, he always covered her lower body with a wide cloth.
