May Every Wound Be Fatal - Chapter 54.2
He did not know why he felt as if she had disappeared from this world forever.
Elizer, who had been standing blankly with an expression as if his breath had been caught, suddenly turned around. He had to confirm with his own two eyes, right now, the fact that Reyna was alive. If he did not, he felt as if he would throw himself into the sea this very instant.
So, truly, it was something he could not help.

With a creak, the sound of a door opening woke Reyna from her sleep.
It seemed she had drifted off for a moment.
When she reflexively lifted her eyelids halfway, the surroundings were dark. It seemed a significant amount of time had passed. The environment was silent, and the midnight darkness had settled into every corner of the room.
Then, a black shadow wavered beyond the faint light of the glass lamp. It approached the bed without making a single sound.
It was the King.
Since he was late today, Reyna had thought the King might not come at all, so she found herself a bit surprised by his visit.
‘I wonder if something happened.’
She was curious about the reason for his delay, but the King likely would not answer even if she asked. He would probably just shake his head slightly again as if it were nothing.
In the meantime, the King drew closer to the bedside.
Reyna instinctively closed her eyes again and pretended to be asleep. It was because, in that moment, the King felt excessively like a stranger.
She was full of things she did not know about him. The fact that she had even known his name incorrectly was quite a large shock. Consequently, a sudden spark of suspicion regarding whether she could truly trust him flared up in a corner of her chest.
To be honest, if he was not the King but a kidnapper who had abducted her, and the servants were all telling the same lies, there was no way for her to know.
It would be different if her memory returned, but if it never returned like this…
‘…I am scared.’
Her mind became complicated in an instant regarding what kind of face she should use to encounter him or what words she should say.
She felt one side of the bed tilt slightly and felt his gaze land on her face.
“…….”
Reyna’s heart, gripped by sudden fear, began to beat faster regardless of her will. She was troubled, feeling as if he might hear that sound.
She wanted him to go back now. However, for some reason, the King did not seem to have any intention of leaving.
‘…Why isn’t he going back?’
Reyna was bewildered.
The reason the King visited her every night was because she had held onto him like a child, saying she was afraid of falling asleep alone. Above all, he always looked tired, and he seemed to visit by dragging his exhausted body along reluctantly.
Therefore, Reyna thought that if she pretended to sleep, he would go back quickly. But contrary to her expectations, he took his usual spot at the edge of the bed.
Come to think of it, Reyna had never once seen the King leave. Perhaps it was because she felt relieved by the fact that he had come, but she always fell asleep quickly despite wanting to talk with him a bit more. She had assumed that he must have gone back immediately whenever she fell asleep, but surprisingly, that did not seem to be the case.
Reyna sharpened her senses while keeping her eyes closed.
However, the only things she could hear were her own breathing, which had become subtly rough with tension, and her thumping heartbeat. He was excessively quiet. Just as she was about to stealthily open her eyes to see if he was sleeping.
“…….”
He began to fiddle with her hair, which was spread out long upon the bed.
He was so careful that, at first, Reyna could not tell where that strange tickling sensation had started.
Sshhh.
As he brushed through her hair with his fingers like a comb, a few strands were tucked behind her ear. The tickle that started at her ear stealthily spread to her cheek, her nape, and her fingertips.
She did not know why simply stroking her hair made her feel such an unbearable sensation. Reyna eventually ended up twitching her fingers without realizing it. Fortunately, he did not seem to notice that fact.
The touch that had been stroking her hair for a long while vanished at some point.
At that, Reyna felt a tension that made her mouth go dry. Yet, as if to make her nervousness feel pointless, he did nothing more than that.
‘…Why?’
It was just as she thought that to herself.
Something soft tickled her hand, which was resting neatly on top of the blanket. It did not seem to be a hand. His hands were solid and rough.
Next, she felt a lukewarm breath on her fingertips.
‘What is it?’
Reyna suddenly opened her eyes and cast her gaze downward.
