“I do not want to stop at C-rank. If I can enter dungeons together with the strongest hunters in Korea, I believe there is definitely something I can learn, even if I am not fighting on the front lines myself. Of course, to do that, I will make the healer’s protection my top priority.”

Lee Hyeon answered earnestly.

Jae-gyeong thought to himself that the guild master would probably like him. Hee-ro, Jeong-eon, and the members of Team 1 were all flexible people who constantly strove to improve themselves and become stronger. In that sense, Lee Hyeon was a perfect fit for the Training Guild.

On top of that, he gave a solid, good impression. He was not particularly handsome, but he looked like someone with a strong center, and his gaze was clear.

He spoke clearly while looking straight at the interviewers, Hee-ro, Da-sol, and Jae-gyeong, one by one, and the way he occasionally smiled with quiet determination was endearing. It was obvious that he was nervous because of the interview, yet it also showed how thoroughly he had prepared.

“So this is how clearly you can see everything from the interviewer’s seat….”

Unless the next applicant was outstanding, Jae-gyeong expected Lee Hyeon to be selected.

However, Hee-ro did not let things go that easily. He handed the right to ask questions over to Da-sol.

“Now Da-sol, you try asking some questions. You are the one who will be receiving the protection, so the two of you need to have good chemistry.”

As if he had been waiting for this, Da-sol looked at Lee Hyeon and asked,

“Are you married?”

Jae-gyeong’s eyes widened in shock. This was a question he had never expected.

Lee Hyeon seemed just as surprised. He stared blankly at Da-sol for a moment, then shook his head.

“No, I am not….”

“Are you in a relationship?”

“No…?”

“Do you plan on dating?”

“Not particularly, at least not right now….”

“What was the first thing you thought when you saw me? When you first walked in.”

“…I thought, this person is Seo Da-sol, the healer.”

“Oh, really.”

Da-sol tilted his head slightly and scribbled something down on the paper. Then he looked at Jae-gyeong.

“Hunter Jeong Jae-gyeong, do you have anything you want to ask?”

“Me, me?”

He wanted to say that he was only sitting there because he had been dragged along without really knowing why. But he could not reveal in front of the applicant that the guild operated in such a slapdash way.

Jae-gyeong quickly racked his brain and came up with a question.

“You said you want to become stronger. If, during a raid, you are given an opportunity to attack in an emergency situation, what would you do?”

A guard hunter’s sole purpose was to protect the healer, which meant they entered the dungeon together regardless of its rank. Because of that, it was paradoxically the most dangerous position. They usually took on protection duties in B- to C-rank dungeons, and sometimes even D-rank ones. If they ever entered an S-rank dungeon, it was obvious they would become the easiest target among the team.

For an attacker-type hunter like Lee Hyeon, who had strong ambition and a high drive to improve, there was a possibility that he would try to confront the danger head-on in a crisis, leaving the healer he was supposed to protect behind. That was what Jae-gyeong had in mind when he asked the question.

Da-sol and Hee-ro, who were seated beside him, were inwardly impressed by Jae-gyeong’s sharp question.

After thinking for a moment, Lee Hyeon replied,

“If that attack becomes a form of defense that protects Seo Da-sol, the healer, then I will do it. But I will not abandon the healer I am supposed to protect and rush to the front lines. First and foremost, I would be a guard hunter.”

It was a perfect answer. Jae-gyeong nodded kindly. He already found himself liking Lee Hyeon.

Hee-ro and Da-sol also seemed to give that answer a passing mark. After that, Hee-ro asked a few trivial icebreaker questions, and the interview came to an end. Lee Hyeon bowed at a ninety-degree angle before leaving the meeting room.

“He seems like a good kid.”

Hee-ro whispered first. Da-sol stood there with his arms crossed and said nothing. Worried that Hee-ro might feel awkward, Jae-gyeong quickly responded.

“I think so too….”

Da-sol still did not say a word. When Jae-gyeong glanced at him, Hee-ro waved his hand dismissively.

“Da-sol just hates all men by default. No matter how well they answer, he will dislike them. At least for now.”

“Oh….”

So he disliked them simply because they were men. Even if they did that well in an interview.

For a moment, Jae-gyeong wondered whether he himself was still included in that category. Did Da-sol still dislike him?

But he was not only a man. He had also made countless mistakes with Da-sol. The more he thought about it, the more he realized that being male was not the real issue.

“He probably does dislike me….”

Still, considering that Da-sol had said he would at least try, that alone might have been an extraordinary privilege.

The next applicant entered the interview room after a five-minute interval. The hunter, who introduced himself as a B-rank assassin, explained that he could use a shadow skill to conceal himself together with one designated person. It was quite a decent qualification for a guard hunter.
