That Face Is the Problem - Chapter 81.2
Seo Da-sol had now reached that stage.
It was the stage where two people who had decided to become lovers tried to understand each other, misunderstood each other, felt disappointed, compromised, fought, realized the other person was different from themselves, talked things through, shared deeper emotional connection, and sometimes even wondered whether they should continue the relationship or cut it off.
It was still the early phase, burning with affection and passion, where desire endlessly pulled them toward each other. Yet it was also a stage lacking human understanding and trust.
A truly complicated and emotionally unstable state. Even more so for someone as socially inept as Da-sol.
“Let’s talk. Whose place are we going to? Yours? Or mine?”
On their way back to the apartment after the meeting, Da-sol spoke first. The tone of his voice was so cold that Jae-gyeong shivered without realizing it.
“Ah… wherever Da-sol wants…”
“Then let’s go to your place, Jae-gyeong.”
Just in case we need to dispose of a body. Da-sol gritted his teeth and muttered the rest under his breath. Jae-gyeong clearly heard it, but desperately pretended not to and stared into the distance.
“What on earth did I do to make Da-sol so angry…? Was it because I acted too obvious during the meeting…? But even so, is that something worth killing someone over…?”
He felt like crying from fear, but barely managed to hold back his tears. Somehow, he felt that if he cried, Da-sol might kill him even faster.
The two of them entered Jae-gyeong’s home in a silence like the calm before a storm. Jae-gyeong took off his shoes as slowly as possible, then awkwardly said, “I will wash my hands….” He went into the bathroom and scrubbed his hands so hard and for so long that it felt like the skin on his palms might peel off.
“When are you coming out?”
Only after Da-sol asked irritably from outside did Jae-gyeong finally leave the bathroom with tears welling up.
Da-sol had already finished washing his hands in the small bathroom attached to the bedroom and was sitting on the sofa. He had his arms crossed, leaning back while glaring at Jae-gyeong. The intensity of his presence and killing intent made him look almost like a gang leader. Fortunately, his small, pretty, doll-like face softened the fear somewhat.
Jae-gyeong naturally knelt down on the floor in front of him rather than sitting beside him.
“Why are you sitting like that?”
At Da-sol’s question, Jae-gyeong flinched.
“Ah… I am not sure… I just did it without thinking…”
He awkwardly stood up, brushed off his knees, and sat down next to Da-sol instead. Seeing that pitiful behavior, Da-sol let out a hollow laugh, as if some of his aggression had deflated.
He looks so pretty when he smiles… Jae-gyeong, already smitten again, smiled dumbly while staring at Da-sol’s side profile.
“What are you smiling at?”
Da-sol snapped at him like a thug picking a fight. Jae-gyeong immediately closed his mouth.
“Sorry…”
“Why are you apologizing again?”
“I just… thought you might not like it…”
“If I say I do not like it, are you going to stop smiling forever in front of me?”
“Uh… I think I would, at least in front of Da-sol…”
After thinking seriously about it, Jae-gyeong answered with an innocent and pure expression.
Da-sol immediately wavered. Maybe what I thought earlier in the meeting was just my own paranoia. I did not even ask him directly. I just assumed it and got angry by myself.
Love was something so great that it even made someone like Da-sol more forgiving. His voice softened noticeably as he spoke.
“Jeong Jae-gyeong, you said you do not confuse me with your older sister anymore, right?”
“Yes!”
Jae-gyeong answered enthusiastically. He could say that much with full confidence.
“Then you know I am not a woman, right?”
“…Huh?”
Jae-gyeong frowned.
“I think I do not understand the question, Da-sol… Aren’t you a man?”
“That is right. I am a man.”
“Yes. Then why are you asking that?”
A lightbulb suddenly appeared above Jae-gyeong’s head.
“Are you perhaps considering gender reassignment…?”
“Ah, what the hell… why did your thoughts jump there?”
In the end, Da-sol swore again.
He turned toward Jae-gyeong and rested his arms on his knees in a posture that looked exactly like a gangster.
“Everyone already knows you are a man, so when you suddenly ask whether I know you are not a woman… I thought maybe you were struggling with your gender identity… I am not in a position to comment on whatever you think, but if you are looking for empathy or agreement, then I—”
“Stop the bullshit.”
“…Yes…”
“I am not confused about my gender identity. I am asking whether you clearly recognize that I am a man while liking me. A lot of people used to think I was a woman, so I just wanted to make sure you are not… that kind of case…”
Da-sol suddenly hesitated.
