When I went to the infirmary, no one was there.

My head hurt and I was irritated from wondering how I was supposed to explain the mess I was in, so I decided this was actually better. I disinfected the wound I had made in my hand with the mechanical pencil and lay down on an empty bed.

“An infirmary with no nurse on duty….”

Even with my head throbbing, a weak laugh slipped out. Wasn’t this some kind of risqué manhwa cliché? Two people getting intimate in a quiet infirmary, something like that. Even if this was a world inside a novel, no sane person would do something like that in a school infirmary….

“…Someone came in, you idiot…!”

An ominous whisper suddenly struck my ears.

My body stiffened, and cold sweat trickled down me. Ah, no way. Please. I’m sorry I called it a cliché. Is this real? Seriously?

“Mmph… Mm….”

Wow. What are you two doing right now?

“…As long as… you stay quiet… they won’t know.”

My friend, I think you need to stay quiet too….

I felt like the eldest child who knew exactly what his parents were secretly doing but pretended not to notice.

“I won’t go all the way….”

People who said that always went all the way. That was how every risqué manhwa worked.

As the sounds gradually intensified, I began to sense danger.

Please stop, you animals…!

Slide-.

The infirmary door opened again. At the same time, all three of us stopped breathing for different reasons.

Shhk!

The curtain around the bed I was lying on was pulled aside. And the person who stuck his face inside was,

“Jihwan-ah?”

It was Kim Jihwan.

“…Oh, how did you know I was here…?”

“I saw your shoes.”

When I checked beneath the bed, my white EVA slippers with ‘Baek Hanrim’ written across them in enormous letters stood out clearly. Then I glanced toward the bed beside mine and saw two shoes haphazardly crumpled beneath it.

You idiots. Hide them properly…!

“Baek Hanrim. My stomach hurts. Find me some digestive medicine.”

“Huh? You’re sick?!”

I snatched Kim Jihwan’s hand and checked his temperature. It was cold as ice. It seemed he really had indigestion. Kim Jihwan was vulnerable to stress. Because of that, he had practically lived on stomach medicine since childhood.

“I’ll warm up a heating pack first, so lie….”

…I wanted to tell him to lie down, but I doubted those hot-blooded animals would obediently stop what they were doing just because Kim Jihwan was in the next bed.

“…Actually, it would be better to leave school early. Let’s go to the teachers’ office.”

I found the same kind of digestive medicine Kim Jihwan kept at home, placed it in his mouth, then took his hand and led him toward the teachers’ office.

As I held his chilly hand, which was about a knuckle smaller than mine, I began resenting myself for the filthy thoughts I had entertained about Kim Jihwan during fifth period. He was sick, and I had thought all sorts of things about him. What was I even imagining about this child who was practically family….

Love Kim Jihwan.

Affection Level 46%

“!”

The Affection Level suddenly dropped. The Affection Level that had risen so easily fell just as absurdly easily. Minus 2 percent at once? Wasn’t that too much? It dropped even though I was taking such good care of him?

Could it be that if I failed to maintain the emotions I felt when the level rose for a certain amount of time, or if my emotions weakened, it would fall again?

I continued walking toward the teachers’ office as though nothing were wrong, but inside, I was panicking and couldn’t control my pessimistic thoughts and emotions. I was already furious and resentful that I suddenly had to love someone, but now I had to offer him my loyalty too.

I wanted to give up on everything. Maybe I should have handed my body over to the doppelgänger and freed myself from all this trouble. I’m sick of everything. Why did I have to go through this….

Love Kim Jihwan.

Affection Level 43%

It dropped again.

Because I couldn’t control myself. It also seemed that the endorphins that had been spinning through me until moments ago had suddenly crashed, leaving my nerves oversensitive.

“Did you two fight?”

When we reached the teachers’ office, the homeroom teacher of Class 12 was startled by my ominously blotchy face and Kim Jihwan’s corpse-like complexion. If we had actually fought badly and I had begun hating Kim Jihwan because of it, at least this wouldn’t feel so unfair.

Love Kim Jihwan.

Affection Level 40%

Stop. Let’s stop thinking.

If the Affection Level I had worked so hard to raise fell into the 10 percent range, something horrible would happen. Even so, irritation and helplessness kept rising within me, and the Affection Level continued to fall.

The Affection Level has dropped by more than 10% within a certain period.

If you are not with Kim Jihwan within the time limit, a penalty will be imposed.
