Transmigrated as the Side Top used as an Emotional Trash Can - Chapter 36.2
Leaving my inexplicably pleased thoughts behind, I hoisted the leftover wooden pieces onto my shoulder. Even though it was summer, the main auditorium was hot because they weren’t running the air conditioner due to power issues. They would probably turn it on in the afternoon when many students gathered, but for now, it was still a sauna.
“Whew, it’s hot….”
The heat and humidity made sweat stream down my body. I roughly rubbed my forehead against the short sleeve of my white shirt. The shirt was already damp, so it didn’t help much. The hair sticking to my face bothered me, so I swept it back once. The beads of sweat running down and falling from me glittered beneath the stage lights.
“I like the sexy type.”
After remaining quiet, Cha Gwonhyeok told me his ideal type.
Was he changing the subject because he was embarrassed? Right, you didn’t have to say anything. I already knew exactly how you felt.
“Yeah, I hope you meet someone wonderful. Let’s finish cleaning this up and go get slushies.”
I spoke with a bright smile.
Didn’t they say even Mount Geumgang was best appreciated after a meal? Today was the festival, and there was far too much entertaining content outside to spend the whole day cleaning the storage room.
“Why isn’t Jihwan wearing a butler outfit?”
After finishing most of the cleanup, I bought two slushies from Class 6 and went to Jihwan’s classroom. Kim Jihwan was wearing his school uniform and throwing away disposable plates.
“Our class treasurer forgot to subtract the costume costs when doing the calculations, so we could only rent one outfit.”
“He should be cut down. That’s dereliction of duty.”
Some passing Class 12 students answered in place of Kim Jihwan, who had pressed his lips tightly together after becoming irritated by the annoying work.
“Where’s the one outfit?”
“It’s right there, stuck to the blackboard.”
There really was a two-dimensional butler sloppily attached to the blackboard with magnets, with a face carelessly scribbled onto it.
I hadn’t expected much from the festival, but its shoddiness far exceeded my expectations, which made it funny.
“Even your food is just crushed ramen snacks. Where did you embezzle the school’s funding?”
“Oh, we ordered pizza with it right away. Fucking awesome-.”
No wonder they had hastily decided on this shabby idea only a week ago. Was this what they called the total society hypothesis? Everyone happily rotted together until it became a corrupt world where everyone was equally crooked. What a comfortable society of entrenched corruption.
“Jihwan-ah, drink a slushie while you work. You must be tired.”
I held out the pink peach-flavored slushie, but he snatched the soda-flavored one instead.
“I was drinking that….”
“Why is everything always pink? I’m sick of it.”
Kim Jihwan grumbled as he drank the soda-flavored slushie. I should have just asked him before buying them.
“I like soda too….”
When I muttered with a slightly dejected expression, Kim Jihwan grimaced and snatched the peach-flavored slushie from my arms too.
“You fucking whine so much. We’ll mix them half and half, alright?”
“Oh, pretty.”
Kim Jihwan brought over an empty cup and divided the slushies evenly. The peach and soda colors mixed halfway together, creating a marbled pattern. I liked how it looked, so I didn’t mix it completely and took a sip while the colors were only loosely blended.
“Yum!”
A smile spread across my face without any effort. Kim Jihwan looked at me and chuckled too. After we waited for a while while drinking the slushies, someone arrived to take over Kim Jihwan’s shift.
I took Kim Jihwan and Cha Gwonhyeok to Class 10’s movie room, where we watched a classic science fiction movie that appeared to have been downloaded illegally. We ate chicken skewers in Class 9, played darts in Class 8, ate col-pop, ate cup ramen, and ate, ate, and ate some more.
They said even Mount Geumgang was best appreciated after a meal, but it felt as though I had skipped the sightseeing and eaten to my heart’s content.
Then lunchtime arrived. Perhaps because many students were eating outside food, the school lunch line was quiet, so I comfortably went around for two full servings. Today’s menu was spicy stir-fried pork and sweet-and-sour pork. It was delicious enough to make me pity the students who had skipped it.
“Hey, Baek Hanrim, you said your costume was fucking tiny. Stop stuffing your face.”
Kim Jihwan scolded me and called me a pig when he saw how enthusiastically I was eating. The costume I had received was a women’s size medium, so it certainly was very small.
“It’s fine. If I have to, I’ll just swim a few laps before putting it on.”
I had something I could rely on. Even if I suddenly gained weight, it disappeared quickly as long as I swam. That was partly why I had been eating without worrying.
“Didn’t they drain the pool this week to disinfect it?”
“Huhk.”
Cha Gwonhyeok’s words instantly brought me back to my senses. They had taken advantage of the reduced number of training days after the competition to disinfect the swimming pool.
