Wrong Genre! - Chapter 11.1
Tap, tap.
A large hand patted Rueg’s stomach.
“Don’t you think it’s about time to get up, Rueg Verdic?”
“…Mm, I’m up… I’m awake…”
Rueg mumbled, but his eyes were still closed, and he didn’t seem to recognize who was waking him. Still breathing softly, Rueg batted away the hand shaking him and burrowed further under the blanket.
So warm… so soft…
The urge to sleep just a little longer was overwhelming. Rueg chewed on his lips and even settled into a new position, drifting right back to sleep.
“You really shouldn’t fall back asleep,” Felix said as he pulled away the blanket covering Rueg.
Rueg, now with a scrunched-up face, shook his head wildly and ruffled his own hair.
“Schumaaann… just ten more minutes… no, five… just one…”
“…Schumann?”
“It’s so warm in here… So just a bit more… We have money now. So we can use a lot of firewood…”
Mumble, mumble.
Watching Rueg, Felix couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle. He was clearly half-asleep, yet somehow managed to keep responding.
“And who do you think paid for all that firewood so you can use as much as you want?”
“A really… handsome… person…”
Even now, Rueg mumbled as he rubbed his cheek against the soft pillow.
But the voice that had kept talking to him suddenly fell unnaturally silent. Only then did Rueg, sensing something was wrong, stop moving.
What…? Schumann never asks things like this…
No, actually, whenever Rueg talked nonsense in his sleep, Schumann would only say, “I understand, but it’s time to get up now.”
If that’s the case, then the person he’d been talking to until now was…
A wave of anxiety surged through him, and Rueg’s eyelashes trembled as he squeezed his eyes shut.
“Why did you stop after ‘handsome’? Hm?”
“H-Handsome… Y-Your Highness the Crown Prince…?”
Felix’s eyebrows rose at Rueg’s clearer voice.
“If you don’t get up right this instant, the promise to pay your debts for you…”
“I, I’m up!”
Rueg shot upright.
Was it because he got up too suddenly? His head spun for a moment and he winced, just as Felix suddenly burst out laughing.
“W-Why are you laughing…?”
Rueg, at a loss, turned to look in the mirror.
And in the mirror… was himself, hair tousled and fluffy.
To make matters worse, since he’d just been buried under a warm blanket, his cheeks were as red as a baked sweet potato.
“D-Don’t laugh…!”
Rueg hurriedly pressed down his hair and looked up at Felix. Felix, already up for quite some time, was fully dressed and holding a book in one hand.
Felix looked so composed, while Rueg felt unbearably embarrassed to be seen in such a freshly-awakened state.
“By the way, didn’t you say you had to eat breakfast every morning?”
“…Ah! Breakfast!”
At that, Rueg glanced at Felix, gauging his mood.
To be honest, he wanted nothing more than to dash out of the room right now.
He was hungry, yes, but he also felt like he’d already made a huge mistake the moment he woke up.
“B-But I couldn’t even do my job of waking Your Highness properly. I don’t have the nerve to go eat as if nothing happened…”
Growl―
But just as he was claiming to have some pride, his stomach gave a loud, rumbling growl.
The sound was so loud it was impossible to ignore, and Rueg’s face turned an even deeper shade of red, as if it might burst.
‘Oh, crap…’
Rueg bit his lip and squirmed, burrowing back under the blanket.
He wanted to crawl into a hole, but all he had was the blanket to hide in. If he didn’t hide his face, he’d surely die of embarrassment.
“…Is that supposed to be hiding?”
Felix let out a disbelieving laugh and mercilessly snatched the blanket away.
Watching the blanket neatly fold itself up at a snap of Felix’s fingers, Rueg looked as if he might cry.
“I heard there’s a rather delicious meal prepared today.”
Rueg flinched at the mention of delicious food. Felix, who noticed immediately, continued nonchalantly.
“Steak, I think it was.”
“That sounds— ack!”
Rueg blurted out without thinking, then hastily clapped his hands over his mouth.
“If you run now, you can probably still get served at the very end.”
“…Shameless Rueg Verdic, reporting for breakfast!”
After all, everything people do is just to put food on the table. There was no use regretting having overslept now.
‘I’ll just do better starting tomorrow!’
Determined to hurry, Rueg practically bolted out of Felix’s room.
Felix, who had been watching Rueg’s retreating back, couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
