Wrong Genre! - Chapter 15.2
Rueg blinked as he overheard the many comments. Versha did have a strong personality, but she wasn’t someone who’d do something that out of line.
Standing awkwardly in the midst of countless enemies, Rueg hesitantly moved to a seat in a less crowded area. A servant quickly brought his food and then disappeared as if running away.
But that wasn’t the end of it.
The moment his food was served, even the remaining people around him all got up and left the dining hall.
“Ha, haha…”
Somehow, everyone seemed to be avoiding him much more than necessary…
He knew they were avoiding him because they thought he was ‘Versha Verdic’, not ‘Rueg Verdic’, but it still felt very strange.
‘My sister isn’t really such a bad person…’
As Rueg sat with his lips drooping, he felt a subtle gaze from the diagonal direction.
“……?”
When Rueg cautiously looked toward where he felt the gaze—
‘W-What the… What is it…!’
A man was glaring at Rueg as if he wanted to kill him.
It was the first time in his life Rueg had ever received such a hostile look, and he couldn’t help but hiccup in surprise.
Compared to the hostility from the others earlier, this was on a completely different level. Far sharper and more intense.
Just what would you have to do to someone outside to get a look like that?
Swallowing hard, Rueg hung his head and gripped his spoon, too scared to risk making eye contact with the man glaring at him.
‘Sister, just what kind of life have you been living…?’
Internally sobbing, Rueg picked up his food with a tearful face.
He had no memory of how he managed to finish his meal.
As Rueg left the dining hall, determined to come at a less crowded time from now on and started heading back to the Crown Prince’s Palace—
“Where are you rushing off to, Versha Verdic?”
The same man who’d glared at Rueg in the dining hall appeared before him.
He was a full head taller than Rueg, with closely cropped hair and a rough, burly build, with not a hint of delicacy. No matter how you looked at it, he was not Versha’s type.
Rueg couldn’t bring himself to ask who he was and instead instinctively took a step back. The man—Mason—reached out and grabbed Rueg by the collar.
“You look like you don’t know who I am.”
“…Hic.”
Rueg, startled, grabbed Mason’s arm. Mason glanced around, and as if worried someone might see, he dragged Rueg by the collar off into the bushes.
“W-Wait, hold on…!”
Frightened, Rueg desperately beat on Mason’s arm to get him to let go.
“Do you know how long I’ve waited for you to be alone?”
“…What? No, wait, let go. What are you— Agh!”
The moment Rueg raised his voice, Mason flung him to the ground. Rueg’s face was scraped by twigs and rocks as he was thrown onto the rough earth.
‘Ah, it hurts…’
Clutching his cheek, Rueg looked up at Mason, who was glaring at him with deep, seething anger.
“Because of you…”
Mason ground out the words through clenched teeth as he straddled Rueg and grabbed him by the collar again.
Without hesitation, he slapped Rueg across the face.
“Aagh!”
A burning pain seared across Rueg’s face.
“It was you, wasn’t it? You’re the one who told them where the night market is. There’s no way the Crown Prince could’ve known otherwise—!”
“No, no, I—I didn’t do anything…!”
“Did you betray us? Yeah, fuck, I knew it.”
Fear surged in Rueg and his shoulders trembled.
He had no idea what this man was talking about.
“Well, what’s the use now. There’s nothing to be done at this point. You know the price of betrayal is death, right?”
“N-No, I…!”
“I’ll sell you off at the night market too. But before that…”
After venting his anger with a punch, Mason ran his palm over Rueg’s chest.
As a wave of revulsion ran through him, Rueg struggled to get away, and Mason raised an eyebrow.
“…What’s this?”
Sensing something off, Mason tore at Rueg’s clothes. With brute force, the buttons popped off and Rueg’s flat chest was exposed.
“L-Let go, please…”
